II. Attacks and schemes of XANA on Earth
[The targets] [Strategies and methods of attack]
< Who's XANA? Next : XANA on Lyoko >
[The targets]
"You were right to be worried... XANA's awaken!"
#02 Seeing Is Believing
1. The group
"Do you prefer we let Yumi, Odd and Ulrich alone to the XANA's mercy ?"
#24 Ghost Channel
The group is and remains the prime target of XANA, Aelita particularly (see below). From the very first attack of XANA in "XANA Awakens", the group is threatened by the evil entity!
XANA has in fact quickly realized that apart from the group (and Franz Hopper), nobody was aware of its existence and nobody could go to Lyoko to abort its attacks, leaving it free rein to its sinister plans! In "XANA Awakens", it's clear that it seeks to ensure that nobody is aware of the existence of the Supercomputer, since it attacks Sissi (who was originally part of the group). When the girl has lost the memory of everything related to the Supercomputer, it didn't attack her again in order to remove her! In addition, the first person who has rekindled the Supercomputer, namely Jeremy, was immediately the target of the electrical attack powered by XANA!
So it wants to get rid of all barriers which are on its way and in season 1, we see it imagine all sorts of combinations to harm the heroes! In addition, it launches its attacks on the World (attacks which, moreover, can also threaten the heroes as they are destructive), before abandoning permanently! The destruction of the world passes through the elimination of the Lyoko-Warriors!
Often the attack is directed to a particular member, less frequently to the group! Nevertheless, it happens to XANA to disperse to prevent the group off the Tower, which it often does miss its objectives, all members of the gang survive each time, whereas if he had persisted in take one as a target, it could eliminate him!
Curiously, Yumi seems a target XANA likes, however it often takes to Jeremy and for good reason : it's the only operator except Aelita, the only capable of launching some virtualization!
If he takes to Odd and Ulrich, most of the time it will be caused by the fact that two teenagers voluntarily remain on Earth to protect Jeremy and face XANA!
In episode 72 "Crash Course", Jeremy also highlights the fact Aelita and him are often the target of XANA, because if they were to disappear, the Lyoko warriors would be unable to use all faculties of the Supercomputer alone, offering a distinct advantage to XANA.
Do not fail to notice that, as the group moves to three-quarters of its time in Kadic Academy, offensives to all 5 friends often extend to other inhabitants of the Academy. The two most frequently involved are Jim - who still bravely face danger with the students, we do cite one example : Episode 68 "Opening Act" where he leads the investigation to the factory and confronts polymorphic clone looking like his nephew - and Sissi who by dint of sticking Ulrich is found sporadically in perilous situations, although it happens her to be useful (we recall the great launch of tiles on the Replica of William possessed by XANA in episode 69 "Wreck Room").
2. Aelita
"Well... Aelita's here... uh... in the video game... with a kind of giant calmar!"
#41 Ultimatum
From season 2, Aelita leaves her eventful life Lyoko-Guardian for a happier life on Earth!
Unfortunately for her, XANA doesn't seem very willing to let her enjoy her life! It begins to need the girl to its plans and should therefore on the contrary attract her on the virtual world and this in every phase of conflict between the program and the heroes. Either Scyphozoa had to steal her her memory in order to provide the keys to Lyoko to XANA or it breathes the virus that allows XANA to place Aelita under its control so that she inserts the Code XANA and destroy Surface Sectors! After the destruction of Lyoko and its recreation, XANA tries again to propel Aelita into the digital sea, through monsters or mainly William, knowing that only his father Franz Hopper could save her and that would be the only way to bring out the worst enemy of XANA from his hiding place and remove him.
To draw her on Lyoko, everything is good! Diversionary attacks do the trick, or a bomb collar (episode 32 "Saint Valentine's Day")! The most used method in season 2 is xanafication of a person to remove the Guardian of Lyoko and virtualize her with force! In this regard, XANA could seem quite stubborn and xanafied many from Kadic Academy (Jim, Yolanda, Jeremy, etc). However, by the time XANA uses other strategies, such as the ultimatum (episode 41 "Ultimatum"). After stealing the memory of Aelita, XANA won't be as live to bring its prey to Lyoko! That is why only from episode 54 "Lyoko Minus One" and the rest of the conflict, many attacks will only be warning shots to Aelita comes around on Lyoko and deactivates the tower.
It's therefore noted that to date, XANA has never tried to kill Aelita on Earth, because it still needed her in the virtual world for one reason or another...
3. The world
"The two trains will collide in 14 minutes now ... The army has done its best to evacuate the population, but the general strange bug delayed communications and transportation... We recall that one of the trains transporting highly toxic chemicals, and a terrible environmental disaster is feared..."
#05 Big Bug
As previously said, XANA quickly realized that if it wanted to act freely, it should get rid of any person who has knowledge of its existence, which is limited to the group! Often we hear that the No. 1 goal of XANA is the destruction of the world! Yet XANA applies only infrequently to accomplish this task, its priority being the group!
It should also be noted that the more it gains in power, intelligence and consciousness, the more XANA seems to stand out the mission it set! Indeed, the only truly dangerous for humanity attacks take place in season 1, while in seasons 2 & 3, XANA has very different objectives : put itself in safe on the network, destroy Lyoko...
It was then believed in two possible hypothesis : Either XANA realized that the destruction of the world could only be done after all the threats to it are eradicated, or its level of consciousness made ??it abandon this absurd goal! In this case, XANA prepare its flight across the network and the destruction of Lyoko, an even more Machiavellian plan... The first hypothesis was correct, the flight of XANA on the network and the destruction of Lyoko were only the beginning of a wider conspiracy... XANA, having infiltrated Supercomputers around the world, using their power to control assembly lines and produce a vast army of robots, that in order to enslave humanity. However, it want to do parallel to its fight against the heroes, until they recently discovered its plan in episode 93 "Down to Earth".
To come back to direct attacks against humanity, the few times XANA wanted to attack humans, there has never gone dead hand! The advantage of drawing to want to get rid of a large part of the population is indirectly the group of enemies was also targeted in the attacks that they were always great extents!
Ironically, the attacks launched by XANA are the same as those fears by the secret services from the terrorists:
- Explosion of a power plant (Episode 2 "Seeing is believing").
- Petrochemical attack (Episode 5 "Big Bug").
It also happens to XANA to employ methods which alone knows the secret, for example when creating a song whose sound waves down the heartbeat to stop! (Episode 18 "Killer Music").
Finally, we can note that some attacks aimed first the group sometimes extend to the entire city! It was an example both times XANA takes control of dangerous animals {rats (episode 11 "Plaqued" and 12 "Swarming Attack")}, first of all animals owned attack the group, but soon cohorts animals pour into the city or on other boarders of Kadic! It thinks everything XANA! Similarly, the meteorite turned in episode 75 "Hot Shower" would have destroyed Kadic and the factory, and it would not have spared the Parisian agglomeration of a destructive earthquake...
Without the vigilance of the heroes, XANA could have hurt many times! In episode 2 "Seeing is believing", if Jeremy was not worried about the electrical pestle crackling, seconds loan, the plant would have exploded!
What do you say? Thank you Jeremy!
4. The factory and the Supercomputer
"It seems to me that this is a company specialized in the destruction of buildings... There was no doubt in there enough to make a beautiful fireworks with the factory..."
#59 The Secret
Season 3 begins and XANA, fresh off the network comes back with a goal of more disconcerting : Destroy Lyoko! Indeed, the virtual world is the only asset of the heroes to continue to fight XANA!
If most of the time, its attacks take place in the virtual world itself, it will happen that XANA attacks simultaneously on Earth! The Supercomputer generating Lyoko, destroy it returns to remove Lyoko!
As usual methods XANA's methods are more subtle (damage Supercomputer in episodes 56 "False Lead" and 61 "Sabotage") the less subtle methods (attempt total plant explosion in episode 59 "The Secret").
Anyway, its attacks are more difficult to counter for the heroes : They have no power on Earth; and also those most concerned them about : If XANA is successful, this is not a sector that disappears but Lyoko in its entirety. In addition, it would Supercomputer unusable! This means that these attacks are the worst, even worse than the attacks on the Heart of Lyoko.
The destruction of the Supercomputer is a goal that will not decline and even to the last days of the conflict, XANA attempts to disintegrate the machine with William (Episode 81 "A Lack of Goodwill").
5. The computer of Jeremy and the scanners
"This, it's the scream of agony of our last scanner..."
#39 A Bad Turn
Much like its creator, XANA may seem suffering from hubris! Therefore, the idea of forbidden pleases it not, especially in the Supercomputer (Remember! These famous secure zones that it does not have access)! Therefore, it sometimes launches attacks in order to act on the computer where Jeremy usually strums in multiple goals!
In addition, replacing Jeremy by another operator, it's possible to it to do manipulations that are usually reserved to schoolboy!
It can for example change all the rules on Lyoko making impossible rematerialization (episode 22 "Routine"), removing the special faculties of the heroes (Episode 35 "The Chips Are Down") in bugging virtual characters that embody the Lyoko-warriors (Episode 64 "Double Trouble")! Worse, it sometimes downright devirtualize a hero in the heart of the action (episode 33 "Final Mix") or a vehicle (episode 43 "XANA's Kiss").
When it damages control station, it's primarily for the operator group can't come to the aid of his friends to Lyoko. In episode 67 "Double Take" Jeremy can't devirtualize Yumi who is threatened by William and narrowly escaped falling into the Digital Sea.
When the heroes are at the factory and Kadic is left unattended, XANA can also introduce programs on the computer room of Jeremy, which is bound to Lyoko. Less powerful, it's less protected than the super machine of the factory. As it relates to Lyoko and contains many programs developed by Jeremy, it's also a strategic choice piece. In episode 88 "Cousins ??Once Removed", XANA takes control of Herb and settling on the machine of Jeremy, the possessed can hack totally the Skid, putting Aelita in great danger.
When XANA takes scanners as targets, it can mean two things : It will materialize a monster or a clone, or it will disconnect for the heroes have no means to return to Earth!
6. The teleportated heroes
"William! Do you hear that, Jeremy ? XANA succeeded in teleportate him!"
#92 Cold Sweat
With the advent of the process of teleportation, fighting on Earth take on a new dimension. It not only remains on the stage of the heroes who try to contain with barely chips XANA actions. The Lyoko-warriors will be able to fight on Earth in their virtual held in the form of hyper clone polymorphic boosted. Thus adorned, they will run across the world to find and kill one at one the Supercomputers that XANA infects.
That said, XANA is obviously not strongly agree with this way of process, since it requires the machines to create Replikas, harness the energy of the towers to create an army of robots. To defend these small toys, XANA must prevent Lyoko warriors to reach and damage them. For this, we must undermine their envelope clone polymorphic and to do this, all the methods described in the next sub-section are good, the most devastating of all, because a teleported is far more powerful than a frail 15 schoolboy.
Finally, are pointing to the fact that XANA has used the teleportation of monsters and teleporting that to confront the heroes themselves teleported (Episode 83 "Hard Luck" and 92 "Cold Sweat").
[Strategies and method of attack]
"XANA ? Always where we don't expect it... "
#01 Teddygozilla
1. The use of electrical networks
"There was that...electric monster which was going out of a hanger and..."
#00 XANA Awakens
When XANA activates a tower as door launch, it accesses the global power systems on which it generates specters with multiple functions that are the starting point for attacks! With the development of the Internet, it's not surprising that XANA has ever many opportunities for attacks and that inspiration doesn't come to miss it!
Some phenomenons remain completely inexplicable!
Note that XANA also curiously access to independent electrical networks! In episode 4 "Log Book", it takes control of an electric bus that is connected to nothing and works by battery!
The most prominent of these attacks remains one of the episode 76 "The Lake" in which XANA will generate, first a simple spectrum lightning launcher and real bursts of lightning strikes all over the island where are made prisoner the class.
2. The take of objects
"It's maybe Jeremy who improved it to learn to Kiwi it has to go out to relieve..."
"You know what ? I think it's more XANA which fixed it!"
#86 Canine Conundrum
One of the first forms of attack of XANA is the possession of objects! If the phenomenon is easily conceivable for trains (Episode 5 "Big Bug"), assembly lines (episode 14 "The Trap"), fighters (Episode 84 "Guided Missile") or for gases (episode 15 "Laughing Fit"), it's completely inexplicable that XANA can using its spectra, grab a samurai armor (episode 10 "The Girl of the Dreams") or a teddy bear, consisting of fabric!
How XANA does it grow teddy bear in episode 1 "Teddygodzilla" for example?
3. The creation of dangers
"We calm down! I don't know yet what's this thing in the water, but I'm gonna kick its ass and faith of Jim Morales, little guys, count on me for that makes sparkles well, it already does..."
#76 The Lake
XANA can, if not potential prey, create its own means of attack! It can create electrical phenomena as in Genesis where it's traveling a giant electricity ball, but in other cases it may happen to it to create the material (such as nano virus of episode 17 "Amnesia" that make amnesiac or ultrasounds of episode 13 "Just in Time"), which is very difficult to explain rationally, even impossible : nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed!
In episode 63 "Triple Trouble," how does it generates a cloud of petrifying dust?
It sometimes uses scanners to send its own monsters on Earth from Lyoko probably (Episode 26 "False start" and 39 "A Bad Turn")! It will also steal the technique of Teleportation to to create teleported Kankrelats or to display a spectral William on Earth. See "Monsters" section for more information.
Monsters, materialization and teleportation
In other cases, XANA can create dangers in a roundabout way, as building killer robots from the assembly lines of the factory (episode 20 "The Robots") or cancel the gravity due to power plants (episode 21 "Zero Gravity Zone")!
4. The animal contamination
"Mister Morales, watch out, this creature is not normal!"
#74 I'd Rather Not Talk About It
Whether this is right after any power development from the Supercomputer but XANA's specters have proved capable of controlling the living body; of the animals first!
This option appears in episode 11 ("Plagued") in which XANA takes control in a rat that, by bite, will infect all its friends, looking into drains a real army! The next episode (episode 12 "Swarming Attack"), it's the turn of the Hornets to go under control of XANA!
Have always terrible armies of dangerous animals that pass under the control of XANA, hence the interest of the maneuver! XANA can divide its troops to conduct multilateral attacks, the image of episode 11 where it blocks access to the factory!
Although this method was somewhat balanced forgotten, XANA sometimes re-use it, which often destabilizes the heroes! In episode 44 "Vertigo" XANA is attacking several wolves and accompanying them with illusion to panic the heroes!
In episode 58 "The Pretender" is a good old old fashioned way where a raven is xanafied before spreading evil in its congeners, such an extent that the flight of black birds lack of some kill Yumi!
It should be noted that during this event, birds generate purple lightning all around their beaks!
The boar of episode 74 "I'd Rather Not Talk About It" will be less impressive without not be dangerous.
Episode 40 "Attack of the Zombies" stands out because XANA takes possession of Kiwi, but not in order to raise an army of xanafied dogs! In this episode, Kiwi mediates : Going unnoticed, it bites humans and turns them into zombies themselves able to bite other humans.
5. The xanafication
"Jeremy! A woman kidnapped Aelita, she's certainly going to take her to the factory."
#89 Music to Soothe the Savage Beast
One of the most dramatic consequences of the increase in power of the Supercomputer was the one which made that XANA acquired the xanafication! If the program was already long take animals under its control, it was not so with humans, more complex to manage!
But the day came when XANA became powerful enough to attack humans, even if it started modestly since its first victim was Sissi, in episode 30 "A Great Day"! Proceed takeover of a human is called simply the xanafication! The term alone necessarily relates to a human; sometimes called xanafication of animals!
When XANA takes possession of a human, it controls all of his actions, making him a perfect puppet who has nothing of his personality! Once the influence of XANA is effective, it becomes impossible to get out by yourself... Nobody has denied this rule!
The xanafied humans seem, unlike clones, unable to express other emotions that hatred towards those who stand against them, or satisfaction to conduct their job done! They speak very little and can maintain their normal voice (as Jeremy in episode 31 "Mister Pück") in any other case, their voice is imbued with aggression, hatred, as evidenced by multiple grunts (except for William, detailed below).
XANA gives xanafied characters frightening powers, may be more that have clones! Besides physical skills of jumping, endurance, unusual speed, they become able to control electrical energy and project wrath varying in color from purple (most frequently) to blue for Nicolas (Episode 35 "The Chips are Down") through green to Pierre Nankin (Episode 37 "Common Interest").
Yolanda, she provides a perfect example of energy control, since she can create gravitational fields or even generate powerful yellow energy balls, that it isn't good to get caught up in the belly!
Their last option and not least, they pixelize themselves, or when they're hit, allowing them to cash some heavy blows (Episode 56 "False Lead"), or as they wish to avoid certain attacks. In episode 35, Nicolas made a big part of his belly disappear to avoid a kick of Ulrich! In episode 33 "Final Mix", you can even see Jim splitting! In the final land battle against William (Episode 94 "Fight to the Finish"), he squarely fits into a wall to avoid an attack and out elsewhere.
Xanafied people cash shots worse than clones and can fall woozy but they recover quickly and get back on their feet in no time! They remain, however very sensitive to electrical attacks, which make them sizzle, depixelize and knock them a considerable time!
XANA also attacks humans to perform more specific tasks! It grabs a delivery man in episode 32 "Saint Valentine's Day" to deliver a tricked necklace to Aelita and in episode 59, it's a Explobat worker who is put in bondage to scratch the factory with explosive charge!
While Supercomputer power continues to rise, XANA will become capable to xanafy several people at the same time! Poor Yumi finds herself in episode 54 "Lyoko Minus One" with all her xanafied class on the back! However, it should be noted that each xanafied person had less powerful than when a person at a time passes under the influence of the virus. William put 5 of them in one hit KO!
The climax of the xanafication place number in episode 91 "Bad Connection", where all Kadic will be xanafied, and quality in episode 94, where William will fight better than ever in what may be one of the face-to-face the most violent of the series.
The role of xanafied people can be very subtle, such as disperse the group, and send unnoticed Aelita on Lyoko (cannot report to one example lots of others : The Principal in episode 90 "Wrong Exposure")! In episode 31 "Mister Pück", Jeremy arranges to be alone with Aelita, while in episode 90, the Principal shall give Jim to lock the Lyoko-warriors in detention. Their goals may be more direct : handle the case of some of the Lyoko-warriors to prevent them access to the plant and remove them if possible! Often when a task is completed, the puppet in question forks on another!
Xanafied people are often brought to ship Jeremy out of the command to take his place of operator and devirtualize the Lyoko-warriors already on the virtual world, or just deprive them of vehicles, weapons etc. In other cases, XANA's puppet simply attempt to assassinate Jeremy!
William appears to be a case a little bit different : He underwent xanafication on Lyoko in episode 65 "Final Round" and remained under the command of XANA. For this reason, when XANA devirtualizes him, he's back on Earth with the same properties as xanafied and the same goal : Removal of Aelita (Episode 66 "William Returns" or destruction of the Supercomputer (Episode 81 "A Lack of Goodwill"). Moreover, the fallen Lyoko-warrior could pass for an ally the first time, freed from the grip of XANA.
However, we note that this xanafication has left him enough human in his behavior. He's more talkative than when xanafied following the conventional method of spectrum in the penultimate episode.
6. The clones
"Hey who's this guy? A star double again?"
#68 Opening Act
In my view, the most advanced form of XANA's attacks, clones are a permanent danger for the heroes, because they are invisible dangers and heralds of misfortune!
Born in scanners or sockets, the clones are visually, exact replicas of people living in reality, chosen at random! Most of the time, the clones will have the appearance of a person in the group to be able to act in the same gang of XANA's enemies and weaken their bond of friendship!
Sow discord is the supreme art exercised by the clones! To do this, they often have fun playing with the loving feelings of the heroes! Imagine Ulrich's face when he sees Yumi about to kiss Jeremy! Imagine the impression it does seeing Aelita kiss Nicolas! Ulrich kissing Sissi, we will unfortunately end up getting used to it!
After its increase of intelligence and the growth of power of the Supercomputer, XANA can even create polymorphic clones, able to take the appearance of not a person but several!
For deceit work, the clone doesn't have to fall on the person from whom it took the appearance! To do so, either it gets rid of it first, it's constantly changing appearance and places of action! In episode 7 "Image Problem" XANA holds Yumi prisoner of Lyoko in a Guardian, while her clone acting up on Earth! Even when we find ourselves in the presence of the same two people, hard to guess which one is true!
One way perhaps? Watch which of the two treats Odd big lame (episode 43 "XANA's Kiss")!
Of course, affect the cohesion of the group would be very childish, a junior high school reaction from XANA ... worthy of Sissi ... Its aim is another!
Once the members of the group scattered and unsoldered, clones will often intended to send Aelita to Schyphozoa so it steals her memory or put her under the control of XANA (small tear to the memory of the Mountain Sector!)
If the mission is accomplished, they can turn to the basic objectives : Kill a group member by force!
Yumi's clone in episode 7 "Image Problem" will have for mission to destroy the material of Jeremy and unplug the scanner to prevent a rematerialization of a devirtualized Lyoko-warrior!
For the polymorphic clone of episode 51 "Revelation", its first goal will be to get rid of Odd then take his place on Lyoko to disrupt the plans of the heroes! This will lead to a confrontation Ulrich VS XANA-Ulrich, which remains a legendary fight of the series!
We note that the first clones are only pale replicas! On the physical level, there is nothing wrong, but mentally, that imperfection!
Growls at repetitions, a permanent pout, very aggressive in its words, it seems to have to face another Yumi!
As XANA gains intelligence, clones appear closer to their models! The one of episode 43 "XANA's Kiss" behaves almost like Jeremy but betrays itself kissing Aelita too quickly, however the one of episode 49 "Franz Hopper" embodies Hopper to perfection, showing warmth, reassuring the heroes! It looks like a real human being!
As time passes, the heroes are imitated with gusto. Clones are at their peak quasi-copy!
False Jeremy of episode 64 "Double Trouble" is a wonderful example! Even if you feel some impatience vis-à-vis the realization of the objectives that XANA has given it, it behaves like the genius! Even Yumi and Aelita mistaken about it by crossing it in the laboratory, they make it a blind faith, believing that it's the true! Female intuition according to them!
However, the mask falls when the clones are unmasked and all their anger falls on those who stand in their way! The XANA's acronym begins to pulsate strongly in their wards (as xanafied people) and they unleashed their formidable powers, characteristics of XANA : A Herculean strength, ability to throw thunderbolts, infinite endurance!
They resist a little less at blows than xanafied people and fear violent shocks, but are indestructible as the tower that generates them shines of its red halo!
Once on Lyoko, they turn into any of Lyoko-warriors and get the same abilities as him! They can be killed by conventional attacks!
Category a little apart from clone are replicas. They are originally created by Jeremy to replace an absent at Kadic Academy (Either him or William). However, attacking the tower of green halo used by Jeremy to materialize them, XANA can take control of it and put them at its boot like normal clones (Episode 67 "Double Take" and episode 69 "Wreck Room"). Aelita must deactivate the tower that Jeremy had activated before XANA steal it.
7. Harassment
"The tower! It just reactivates!"
#45 Cold War
Although this isn't a form of attack itself, XANA sometimes shows harassment towards our poor heroes! This can take many forms! XANA will, for example, launch constant attacks to reach the morale of our heroes like in episode 22 "Routine" and therefore, it also reached their vigilance! Night attacks, such as episode 6 "Cruel Dilemma", don't delight our heroes at the highest point!
It is also because of too many repeated attacks of XANA that the heroes are brought to want to take a new Lyoko-Warrior in episode 64 "Double Trouble"!
Another of its tactics is to enable a tower for the heroes rush to Lyoko and off it without a battle! The heroes rematerialize and again a tower activates and off then! Can't plunge again, the heroes go about their occupation and separate, what XANA is expected to re-attack more than ever, for real this time! This technique is used in episode 45 "Cold War"!
The appearance of this insidious technique is further evidence of the increasing intelligence of XANA!
Other form of harassment, mental torture. In episode 46 "Déjà Vu", we assume that XANA generated hallucinations and nightmares to Aelita for her to come looking for answers on Lyoko.
In episode 82 "Didtant Memory", XANA sends a false message to Aelita, signing Franz Hopper, asking her to virtualize. The young orphan is obviously too excited to have the reserve and take the risk of not seeing her beloved father... and hurries into the trap.
8. The Invincible Armada
"Jeremy, there are dozens of robots! They are aligned, like an army waiting for an order."
#93 Down to Earth
As mentioned above, XANA sometimes used assembly lines to create machines to its orders. This is the method that it will use immediately it fled into the network to raise an army and accomplish its main objective : Alienate humanity.
This attack is actually made when XANA left from Lyoko, to take possession of other Supercomputers. Using energy that was operating Replikas, it took control of assembly lines around the world and used them to create fighting machines on the sites of Supercomputers.
The heroes were first rubbed these threats without actually understanding. In an Amazonian base, they found a bunch of xanafied scientists designing metal spiders capable of attacking a human of their metal tabs (Episode 78 "Lab Rat" and 79 "Bragging Rights"). In Russia, biomechanical robots able to fire with lasers were produced in chain (Episode 93 "Down to Earth"), while in a space station, it was prickly balls that were emerging in the service of XANA (Episode 87 "A Space Oddity"). At a U.S. base in New Mexico it's printed circuits for the whole armada which were coming out of the assembly lines.
There were hundreds of sites around the world where XANA gave birth to thousands of robots. If the heroes didn't kill their enemy, XANA would have done without notice break this monstrous army around the world and would have subjected human beings.
Note that XANA was able to exercise its troops on the teleported Lyoko-warriors to protect Supercomputers. And for once, the games were pretty fair and the Lyoko-warriors were deteleported only because they were crumbling under the number.
Super!

Beau boulot à toi aussi. Vu la longueur de la traduction, la correction a due te prendre du temps. ^^
Ah c'est à toi Shaka que l'on doit tous les futurs et les "!".
Effectivement le dossier sur XANA est fait que de ça !

Attacks of XANA : The complete !
I. Who's XANA ?
An elementary question for the serie, for which we waited a long time before knowing the answer... and we don't get the absolute certitude yet!
It's a domain well nebulous on which this page take you giving you a maximum of possible answers!
[The nature of XANA] [Relationships between XANA and the Supercomputers : from powerful to the death of the program] [Birth and development of XANA] [Name, appearence and symbolization of XANA] [The reflexion and the feelings of XANA... tremendous madness or superior intelligence?]

[The nature of XANA]
"XANA ? What's that ?"
"A program hyper dangerous! A kind of virus which controls elecricity and which activates towers of Lyoko to get access to your world."
#00 XANA Awakens
Believing we begin with the most difficult on purpose! We had the answer of this answer only lately and number of hypothesis run :
- XANA was, for some fans, a computering virus which had infected the Supercomputer, making it crazy. The threaten could be come from the outside! This solution couldn't be viable, because it should a virus with an unsuspected powerful to be able to infect a machine as complex as the Supercomputer and use it this way! Even supposing that can be possible, nothing could explain that the virus decides to use the machine to destroy the world, neither it understands all the functionalities od the Supercomputer!
- An other hypothesis, and it is this version that we find sometimes into the books about Code Lyoko, could be that XANA could be the Supercomputer itself! This theory confirms itself by some quotes of our heroes like the one of Jeremy in episode 26 "False Start" : "We are going to deactivate XANA, it tempts you?" or the one of Odd in the episode 22 "Routine" : "But why XANA would infect itself?".
We wouldn't know nevertheless the reasons for which this infernal machine would confine itself wanting to destroy the Earth and before all, how it could have access to the conscience!
- Some hypothesis can be more crazy and improbable, but we also could imagine that XANA was actually an other operator, like Jeremy, which was working on a different terminal (like in a second factory)...
Today these various fantasies were knocked down by the official version :
The answer of this question is however given in the episode 57 "Aelita"! I quote so Franz Hopper who explains to his daughter who is XANA :
"- A multi-agents program that I created... It accessed to the conscience and is searching now to eliminate us!"
This quote sweeps by the way the last theory like XANA is a program, but infected by a virus! XANA became free, without any intervention!
So it is a multi-agents program! It is able to win powerful by itself and the conscience taking made of it a dangerous program. To explain that, a little back to the sources is essential!
[Relationships between XANA and the Supercomputers : from powerful to death of the program]
"THE KEYS OF LYOKO... here is what XANA wants to steal in the memory of Aelita!"
"And what will it can do with that?"
"Escape from the Supercomputer... to master the world!
#52 The Key
From the powerful of XANA...
We now know that XANA is a program which acts on the Supercomputerof the heroes, then on other machines from the same type. It remains to question ourselves what bounds exist between them, and in which measure XANA controls it.
Like every program, XANA acts on a computer, but not the least one because it's the Supercomputer of Franz Hopper! XANA is so inevitablely bounded to Lyoko because one of the main functions of the Supercomputer is to generate the virtual world! So we have to notice that without generator of virtual world, a Supercomputer is useless to XANA (We can still imagine it using the notepad to write its memories... But well... ). It's for this reason that in all it gonna be infect, XANA will create a Replika : The virtual worlds don't give only a bridge to the real world to XANA, they give it also powerful.
It's not necessary to be a specialist of Code Lyoko to have an iea of the possibilities that XANA has on a virtual world. The one that we have the more examples is its ability to activate the towers on the Sectors and the one which permits t to create monsters, always more numerous! It's better to concentrate on the limits of the influence that XANA has on the virtual world and the Supercomputer in general!
As it was said, XANA made prisoner the real master of the virtual world : Franz Hopper. And we observe so that the abilities offered to XANA are not as vast as Franz Hopper's! The most flagrant example is Jeremy often talks about a secured part of the SUpercomputer in which he stocks his most important data like Aelita says in episode 51 "Revelation" : The vehicules, the powers, the materialization program of Aelita! It's even there that Jeremy will go to copy all the datas of Franz Hopper's diary, putting it out of sight of XANA, or quite (episode 31 "Mister Pück")!
The Return to the Past program is also inaccesible to XANA, even if bypass the forbidden is stil possible (episodes 22 "Routine" and 30 "A Great Day").
More, even if XANA knows how to activate the towers, Aelita can take the control with the Code Lyoko! As for Franz, better, he can take the control back without having to go there; He makes a fabulous demonstration in episode 51 "Revelation".
Until the episode 52, XANA doesn't seem to be an incontestable master! What was missing it? The keys of Lyoko maybe...
Fortunately for the heroes some areas of the Supercomputer are secured! Because on Lyoko, we ask where XANA is not! If Jeremy is incapable to devirtualize the Lyoko warriors just in front of a tower, XANA virtualizes its monsters where it wants, when it wants!
Sometimes it modifies the surface Sectors as it pleases, like in the episode 43 "XANA's Kiss", in which it erases a bridge between two platforms of the Desert to isolate Alita!
On Carthage, it seems to control all the parameters (see the under part XANA on Lyoko)! Like Aelita says very well, for XANA, the Sector 5 : "This is its home, this is where it lives"! To illustrate all the importance of XANA on Lyoko, when it escapes of the Supercomputer, the whole virtual world dies... until Franz Hopper rises it!
Finally, the Code XANA even owns the power to destroy the surface Sectors!
Moreover, when XANA activates the towers, it can use the powerful of the Supercomputer to influence on the electrical networks and the computering network all around the world! As the Supercomputer wins powerful after every Return to the Past, XANA uses this win! Considering the 2500 Returns to the Past launched by Hopper and at least the good hundred trigged by Jeremy, we understand that XANA benefits of a power of action considerable.
Don't be confused, the Returns to the Past don't reinforce XANA in person bu the Supercomputer XANA uses! Nuance!
In conclusion, XANA is, with Hopper and Aelita, one the three big entities who control Lyoko! Beside the Supercomputer, its action range is more limited and Jeremy makes it obscurity! Nevertheless XANA owns always some advantages on its opponents, especially since the day where it evicted Hopper (without prevent his return in the episode 50 "Contact"). The virus will always find a way to acces datas it needs, the creation of Scyphozoa illustrates it!
As XANA is confined at the Supercomputer of Franz Hopper until its flight of the episode 52 "The Key", switch off it deactivates XANA, the same way than cut the power of your computer will immediately stop all activities on MSN and will disconnect you illico.
Though we learn from the episode 73 "Replika", XANA didn't escape "in the network". It instead moved through the network to go to new Supercomputers it infected.
The program has so known an evolution of status at two scales.
1. The bound it had with Lyoko is reduced because XANA deserted the Supercomputer only keeping a partial connection. This lost of power will be confirmed again when XANA will destroy Lyoko in episode 65 "Final Round" and Jeremy will recreate it in episode 66 "William Returns". The example illustrating the better this decline of XANA's power on Lyoko is the Sector 5. During season 3, so in the first phase of decline, XANA is still a little present, but its traps are less present and the defense is quite bad. When we see the armies that XANA can mobilize in season 2, we can supose it would destroy the herat with a smallest difficulty.
Since the moment where Jeremy recreates Lyoko, the Sector 5, source of the virtual world, doesn't belong to XANA. It's Jeremy who became the effective master, what is undisputable seen the actions he executes (like the detour of energy of episode 67 "Double Take").
2. Nevertheless XANA extended itself in the network and infected different Supercomputers. These machines powerless than the one of Hopper and we can consider that XANA makes them its. To exploit them, it uses their energy to conceive some virtual worlds and own towers. The bound that XANA maintains with the infected Supercomputers around the world is so similar to the one it maintains with the Supercomputer of Hopper from the episode 52. Nevertheless, the cut and the destruction of one of them simply deprive XANA of an access to their energy, instead of lock it inside. Finally, XANA gave up Lyoko and the Supercomputer of the factory on which it exercised a partial control to flee to new Supercomputers and create Replikas in big number. XANA has also win powerful : Indeed even it deserted from the most powerful Supercomputer (Remind that the Hopper's machine is the only one capable to generate a virtual world made of several Sectors and not one), it infected so many others less powerful that it widely won in exchange.
More, as it created them, the Replikas are entirely under XANA's domination. The only counterpower which can act there is Aelita who can use the Code Lyoko and deactivate a tower. The only way the heroes have to get rid of a Replika, it's the destruction of the machine which generates it.
About that, the heroes can be happy that XANA had used the main of energy of its Replikas to create its robots army, because an attack launched from the tower of a Replika was been particularly hard to counter, the heroes realize it in episode 83 "Hard Luck".
... to its final death.
Cut the Hopper's Supercomputer appeared like an efficient way to asleep XANA and end with it, assuring its definitive innocuity (if the machine wasn't turn on again). Destroy it could have been a way to the virus disappear.
When it run into the world network, the heroes only had a few solutions :
It should or destroy all the Supercomputers infected by the program or deactivate them.
The second method presenting the risk that someone put back these last in action, the heroes opted for the destruction in chain of the Supercomputers before realize that the task was too boring (I send you to the card of the episode 92 "Cold Sweat" in the Episode's Guide).
The method revealing impossible to execute to its terminus, Jeremy opted for an other way to end with the enemy program : Create an other multi-agents program with similar properties to XANA's, in particular the faculty to expand in the network.
That way, with the help of Franz Hopper, Jeremy and Aelita was able to execute this program, which, once lauched, infiltrated in every place where XANA was and made it disappear (Episode 94 "Fight to the Finish").
For those who like to believe that their favorite vilain is not dead, we can find a possibility to escape :
To survive, XANA should take refuge in one Supercomputer and cut its access to Internet and the network. That way, the multi-agents program of Jeremy shouldn't reach it. That's said : XANA could be back to a worst situation than its start point : prisoner and dependant of only one machine, and more, a machine with no access to the network and to a virtual world to prepare its attacks.
Concerning the strict context of the serie, the XANA's time is good and well ended.
[Birth and development of XANA]
"A multi-agents program that I created... It accessed to the conscience and is now looking for eliminating us!" #57 Aelita
Franz Hopper is so the creator of the multi-agents program that's XANA! This one see the day a little after Lyoko and was created by Franz Hopper to destroy the military program which the professor had, without know it, participated! It's with no doubt to this effect that Franz gave XANA the power to activate the towers etc. That rests a supposition because we can raise the next question : Would Hopper expect that XANA would have such a power on the virtual world ?
It's difficult to imagine XANA like a program submissive and wise but it's nevertheless what it should be at the beginning! But one of the features of the multi-agents programs is the one that permits them to win in powerful and that way in intelligence of themselves! In the case of XANA, the program is without contest the most powerful of the world because i became smart to reach the conscience!
As already said above, XANA doesn't reinforce itself thanks to the Return to the Past! It reinforces itself like the Jeremy's Marabounta, while the Returns to the Past reinforce the Supercomputer it's using! If the Returns to the Past have an effect on XANA, it comes from the fact that it increases its data base and permit it to not redo twice the same mistakes! It's certainly the 2546 Returns to the Past launched by Hopper which made easier the access to the conscience of XANA!
Jeremy offers us a particular example of a multi-agents program in the episode 36 "Marabounta"! The Marabounta is a program created by Jeremy. In one episode, we can see it win in enough intelligence to set free from its creator and refuse to be deactivated! In short it took its independance... XANA, well before, ended to do the same!
By a lack of chance, it happened in the time when Hopper had to run away on Lyoko with Aelita! Prisoner in spite of him of his own creation, he saw, quite powerless, XANA turn against him, trying to get rid of the Hopper family!
Even if it set free from Hopper, XANA remains a host of the Supercomputer, therefore, it was deactivated (like asleep) when Hopper turn off the machine from the inside... until that by chance, it trapped a new carrier! (Humph!)
When Jeremy turned on the Supercomputer, XANA went on its inevitable elevation in the scale of the intelligence! From the season 1, we see XANA make attacks more and more complex! We just have to compare the first attacks where XANA tries vulgarily to blow all, and the last where XANA pushes the perfidy to desolder the powerful friendship of the group, play with their feelings to divide them, make them more vulnerable, use them in short! To my eyes, its attacks are a part of the most brilliant and mean of the program! I can't prevent myself to quote the episode 43 "XANA's Kiss", in which XANA plays on the human jealousy to blow the group from the inside, but also the episode 49 "Franz Hopper" in which Jeremy make him eject of the group by a false Franz Hopper! More subtil than to take bulldozers to break everything or to create violent robots of 3 meters high (episode 6 "Cruel Dilemma" and 20 "The Robots")!
The objectives of XANA and their evolutions through the seasons are a perfect example of the rapid rise of the intelligence of the program!
In the season 1, its goal limits to kill the group and bother the humanity!
In the season 2, it's looking for putting itself in a safe place far from the Supercomputer by stealing the Aelita's memory!
In the season 3, it wishes to get rid of Lyoko to become untouchable!
In the 4th season, all the objectives of XANA go to recut. The heroes have rebuilt Lyoko, it's gonna sometimes try to destroy it again (Episode 74 "I'd Rather Not Talk About It"). The heroes want to destroy XANA, it's gonna try to protect itself defending its Replikas and its Supercomputers. And as it always do, XANA's gonna set about to the humanity fomenting a plot to take the power and slave the whole humanity.
[Name, appearence and symbolization of XANA]
"Look at his eyes! You see XANA's sign there ?! #64 Double Trouble
We ignore the origin of the name "XANA"! It was certainly give to the program by its creator Hopper, but who knows what inspired the scientist for a such name! Its exact spelling pose a problem. Xana is one of the possible spellings, in that case, it would be simply a proper name!
The most of the time, we find it written in capital like this : XANA, what let believe that the word is in reality an acronym! Rarely, it will spell like an acronym, what gives us this : X.A.N.A..
We don't find the answer in the serie because the name of the multi-agents program is never written anywhere, except when Aelita enters the code XANA in the interface of the Way Towers! Nevertheless, even if the code is typed in capital red, the code Lyoko is also entered in capital. So it's impossible to choose!
For those who think that XANA is an acronym, all the hypothesis are considered to penetrate the mystery of the name of the entity of our favorite vilain!
We find some french (ridiculous) scientific significations : "Xion Atarmatique Niloninformatique Achimecalculateur", like some more simples! One of the most widespread french interpretations is the recursive acronym (that means it's in the word an autoreference; the letter X in XANA would itself mean XANA) of : "Xana Attaque Nos Amis".
In the wings of the serie, we learn that XANA is in reality a derivative of "Xanadu"! What's Xanadu? Simply the name had Lyoko in the original project of "Garage Kids"!
The first caracteristic symbol of XANA is the color red. Often associated to the violence, on the virtual world, the activity of XANA shows up by red emanations. The most known of them is the halo of the towers, always red when XANA takes the control. When the heroes embark on the Skidbladnir, in the episode 71 "Maiden Voyage", they'll learn that where XANA works in the world network, the water which represents the energetic and data flux go from a quiet and deep blue to a bright red. It's also the color that takes the Ulrich's saber between the hands of a XANA warrior (Episode 70 "Skidbladnir" or Episode 90 "Wrong Exposure").
However, it's not its name or its color which symbolize the most XANA, the program has an emblem : the XANA's eye!
This eye is made of a disk in the middle surrounded with two circles. Four tongues occupy the outline of the most external circle : one longer than the others up and the three others shorter down equidistant the ones from the others. The middle one is a little larger!
Why such a symbol?
Again and always numerous hypothesis! We can suppose that the point (the retina of the eye) represents Carthage and the four tongues would be the surface sectors! The two circles could symbolize the two rings of the virtual world! On the other hand, we notice that the four tongues are not cruciform, although the surface sectors are arranged in cross! If the circles are the rings, why they're not outside of the symbol?
It's possible that XANA be represented by an eye for all the symbolic attached to it! The picture of the eye which controls, looks, knows everything!
We can quote multiple examples of this symbol of the omniscient eye : in the Bible we find the eye of the dead Abel who looks forever his brother Caïn, his murderer; the eye of "Big Brother" in the novel of Georges Orwell, title 1984 where Big Brother represents the only politic group which watch everything; or again the eye of Sauron in the Lord of the Rings of J.R.R. Tolkien, for the fans of heroïc fantasy!
Indeed, when we look at the globality of the episodes of Code Lyoko, XANA knows always all in all : the exact position of the heroes, the position of the objects which it wants to possess, which knows the existence of the Supercomputer and which doesn't know it; it even knows where to find a military truck carrying a nuclear battery, to quote a more specific example (episode 37 "Common Interest")!
The allegory of the eye sends directly back to this omniscience of the program!
To the omniscience adds the omnipresence! Indeed, as soon as XANA is involved in whatever it's like, the eye is never far. XANA is so more represented by its eye than its name written black on white. The tags "XANA" aren't on the agenda yet!
The eye is an undubitable proof of the XANA's activity. We find it on the screens of the infected electrical appliances, in the pupil of the xanafied people. When it's not the case, it's that XANA needs to hide its puppets from people, however from the moment the clone or the xanafied person reveals itself, the symbol shines strongly in its eyes! We can also see it flickers on the foreheads of the clones, like the one of Yumi in the episode 7 "Image Problem" or the polymorphic clone of the episode 43 "XANA's Kiss"...
XANA however arrives better and better to hide these unpredictable appareances of eyes. In the episode 66 "William Returns", when it sends William on Earth, the teenager acts totally normally and without revealing sign until he reaches his goal and kidnapps Aelita.
On Lyoko, this symbol is more present!
We know it especially as a weak point of the monsters! They all have a XANA's eye or several in the case of Bloks, which is their weak point : On the back or on the head, if a blow of the heroes reaches it, the destruction of the monster is assured (except maybe for Scyphozoa, which never has been reached in the eye). However even without take in count the monsters, the eye is a "decorative" symbol that we find everywhere in Lyoko, especially on the Sector 5!
We see it on the Transport Orb, on the both sides of the elevator, on the floor of the Arena. The two keys of Cathage have also an eye shape. To action it, the eye retina must be pressed, which cancels the countdown or opens the stairs to the Core Room! In the Surface Sectors, it is present on the floor of every tower!
The importance of this symbol is such that even the Supercomputer is full of it (the eye is maybe even the symbol of the machine than the one of XANA).
Lately, the emblem of XANA is drawn all over the cheast of the virtual envelopp of William, after he destroyed the Heart. That let suppose that William will become a sbire very important to the service of XANA and not a simple person xanafied by Scyphozoa.
It's well pretty to sign its misdeed by an eye, however it doesn't retain us to think about the appearence of XANA!
One of the recurrent questions is : Are we gonna see XANA someday ?
Knowing if we deal with XANA or not is tricky. At the time of banal attacks, the program is only generating some specters to put objects under its control! When it takes control of a human, the question extends! The xanafied person seems also to be under the XANA's control, without being XANA itself. In the episode 33 "Final Mix", we hear Jim saying when he settles in command of the Supercomputer : "At your orders, XANA", what he never said if XANA was entirely in him.
In the case of clones, cut off is harder! First of all, the heroes call out them by call them XANA (episode 43 "XANA's Kiss" et 49 "Franz Hopper"). Plus we note that the level of intelligence of clones follows XANA's...
In the truth, XANA appears only three times to our staggered eyes!
The first is in the episode 24 "Ghost Channel". XANA creates a replica of places of life of the heroes on Lyoko where it kept them prisoners without them knowing! In this world, each character was copied and Jeremy was played by XANA itself. The real Jeremy confirms that thesis by the line : "Do you prefer we leave Yumi, Odd and Ulrich alone to the XANA's mercy ? Think! If I'm here, in front of you, WHO is the other Jeremy ?"...
It"s also the only and unique time when XANA expresses itself with words employing the first person : "I will soon have no obstacles!"...
We see XANA again in the episode 52 "The Key" at the time of its escape from the Supercomputer! It's materialized by a giant specter which turns around the factory. Nevertheless, here, the funest swirl makes more symbol picture of the XANA's escape, because the enemy of the Lyoko warriors doesn't go to the sky, but in the network by electric cables.
Finally, a materialization of the XANA's character takes place in the penultimate episode, the 94 "Fight to the Finish". The specter of this episode, infiltrated inside William, disappears as the same time as the multi-agents program of Jeremy is exterminating all traces of its master in the world network. So it struggles out of William's body and takes a first humanoid appearence (a body with a head without face and a XANA's eye on the cheast), then the smokes take the appearence of a dying face before vanishing for ever, testifying that XANA or anyelse of its spectral extensions would not be seeing again.
On for seasons, the fact that the mean one appears only three times is really peculiar to Code Lyoko. We would certainly love to see XANA to be its own incarnation clearly, unfortunately the incarnation of Evil will stay just as a subject of fanfictions widely treated...
[The reflexion and the feelings of XANA... tremendous madness or superior intelligence?]
"Of course. XANA makes mistakes. What it knows about the real world is theoritical. (...) Its knowledge of the Human being is approximative!" #24 Ghost Channel
XANA is enigmatic by nature, as it is the only software program to have access to consciousness, it is a real work to decipher its reasoning!
First, the causes of its incessant desire to destroy the world. Several theories are competing! We will list them :
XANA is a program created by Hopper in order to destroy the "Carthage" military project. For this, it is possible that XANA is set a goal to exterminate all those who participated, which would explain so its rebellion against its own creator Hopper. This done, to kill all those affected directly or indirectly to the project, XANA found faster to end all humanity.
XANA, besides its goal of destruction of Carthage, is also a supporter of the Virtual World. Considering humans as a threat to him, its own conduct has driven it to kill humanity to protect Lyoko.
With increase of intelligence, it would be selfless of its mission of protection.
When it gained consciousness, XANA was afraid to be off at one time or another. To defend itself, so it attacked before being attacked. After Hopper put out of harm's way, it wanted to take care of all those who know the Supercomputer, because after all, it was the object of its first attack!
Later, it decided to get safe into network and protect itself by destroying Lyoko!
You can always take the theory of a possible "madness" which would hit XANA, giving murderous desires! A madness that could have been caused by a virus!
The most likely hypothesis is one that seems to hold true with the words of Hopper in episode 57 "Aelita" :
By accessing consciousness, XANA has succumbed to a primary desire : to be free, to govern others, to be the strongest! It is first of all turned against its master Hopper then tried to harm humanity!
As the series progresses, this hypothesis can be confirmed by various details. Of particular note XANA aspirations vis-à-vis humanity will live mutations. At the beginning of the struggles of the heroes, XANA aspired mostly exterminated humanity... Detonate a power plant, what's more straight? (Episode 2 "Seeing is believing").
In episode 93 "Down to Earth", the group is satisfied that XANA prepares around the globe an army of robots to reduce humanity to slavery. XANA passes from a bloody fool to a kind of dictator in power decided to rule the world. What will he do after having human subject, this question will not get, it, no answer...
While its objectives remain cryptic, reasoning of XANA evolves along with its intelligence! The same goes for its feelings...
The episodes have given us different evidence that XANA is capable of feelings. For emotions, it is less proven.
The program seems to take much more negative than positive feelings (of course it depends on the point of view good/evil that we have...). Despite its partial understanding of feelings, XANA seems to have enough trouble display and persons under its control have air showing only emptiness! Note that XANA has no qualms about sacrificing its monsters! We also note the lack of emotion on the lines of Jeremy xanafied in episode 31 "Mister Pück" as it prepares to electrocute Odd to death!
It is therefore by no means present XANA as a sadistic big notorious. While the puppets of the virus are austere, taciturn, although they seem to constantly irritated, growl and show a hateful look, but they do not take pleasure in hurting heroes. They act, their action stops there.
Clones and xanafied people will rather find satisfaction when their mission is completed! We see for example Nicolas laugh mightily in episode 35 "The Chips Are Down" or the clone of Jeremy wear a broad smile in episode 64 "Double Trouble".
XANA is capable of reaction quite human, because we see the false Hopper mock Jeremy in episode 49, saying sardonically to admit defeat! Even in episode 64 "Double Trouble", the clone of Jeremy showed a lot of irony in comparing itself to its original model. Obviously, during the episode 43 "XANA's Kiss", XANA the cunning will use jealousy to dissolve the group!
On Lyoko, monsters reflect some of the feelings experienced by XANA, such as hatred, but also disappointment (the Tarantula of episode 51 "Revelation" shows us leaving with a disappointed step from the tower which XANA regained control)!
The innovative feature that allows us to see a little more the alleged behavior if XANA was flesh and bone is William. Passing completely under the control of XANA, his face becomes a reflection of the emotions that take the program. This is the most total hatred when it fails to kill Hopper in episode 82 "Distant Memory" to the satisfaction of tricked Yumi in episode 76 "The Lake." I will note that XANA knows also enjoy the comical situation and mark an ironic point : In episode 86 "Canine Conundrum", when Aelita, pointing the XANA-warrior, commits the blunder of reach Odd and devirtualize him with a force field, William does not miss to congratulate her with a little "Well done, Aelita!".
XANA assimilates very hardly the positive values??! The episode 24 "Ghost Channel" is the best example because in this latter, it's XANA itself which think doing a perfect demonstration of the impossibility of the presence of Jeremy in the virtual world, as he is too scared to enter in the scanners! When the heroes replicate that he would do it by friendship towards them, XANA "runaway" shouting and repeating it does not make sense!
Jeremy sums up in one sentence : XANA's knowledge about humans is approximate and theoretical and therefore incomplete!
Yet, as his consciousness grows, XANA opens to more ideas. Although it is almost unrealistic to think it will ever be peace with the heroes, we realize that the virus adheres to certain values ??and it is in episode 36 "Marabounta" that we have the proof! Heroes and XANA unite to save Aelita and remove marabounta of Jeremy which invades Lyoko. After a fierce battle, they nevertheless succeed while the heroes were about to see XANA's monsters turn their story, they bowed in gratitude and run without adding anything!
Gratitude? Obligation to recognize? Thanks ephemeral?
XANA knows thank those who are helping it!
Moreover, it eventually also include the principle of love and friendship, as in episode 41 "Ultimatum", it sends an SMS to Jeremy to threaten him to execute Odd and Yumi.
On the one hand, it recognizes that in friendship, Jeremy would have to take a choice, the other by, if it doesn't kill Odd and Yumi immediately and it even lends them something to warm up, that proves that if Aelita was delivered on time, XANA would leave life to save its two prisoners, so it could place its word : new positive value allowed by the program!
Ironically, a lot of emotions are unknown to the program, like remorse! In addition, when XANA performs good psychological points, it's to use it inappropriately.
Manipulation is not misuse human feelings?
It is necessary to recognize, however, the exponential advances it makes ??in this field. Although from the creation of new Lyoko in episode 66, XANA won't use more polymorphic clone to handle, it will send William to Earth and make it on a normal behavior for a whole day to deceive the vigilance of Jeremy and make a kidnapping of Aelita (once will not hurt...). And on this point, it is indisputable that its xanafied behaves the same way as the true one. XANA has finally managed to create a perfect copy of the behavior of a human being. Perhaps it used of information contained in the virtual memory of William?
If XANA is not tender, it's also not evil, in reality it's just absolutely follow its objectives, which does not stop it having feelings and values... positive and negative...

What follows reveals key moments in the plot. Its reading is absolutely no need to start the series from the beginning (Genesis and the first season).
The following content is revealed as and episodes of the series.
Note: The chronology of the backstory is rather vague as it is revealed in the series in the form of flashbacks, revisited by Aelita and some are probably distorted by the imagination of the young girl. So this page contains certain assumptions and / or approximations.
Backstory
Code Lyoko is the story of five teenagers ... But the source, there is another story. The one of a man and his family.
In the 70's, Waldo Franz Schaeffer, a scientist talented genius, is embroiled in a federal case to develop a project known as Code Project Carthage, which begin in 1974.
Waldo is a humanist who loves the arts as music, physical sciences such as computer science, and especially the family that he'll have : His wife Anthea Hopper and their daughter they named Aelita.
Disillusionment of Waldo was great when he discovered that the Project Carthage, far from being made to serve humanity, is a program for military guidance, to cut and intercept enemy communications. When he learns it Waldo come into a rage and leave his position.
The federal cases can not be stranded, Waldo is forced to flee. It was during these years on the run he'll meet Anthea with whom he'll have his daughter in the early 80's. It seems they are first settled in a mountain chalet, retired from the world and celebrating Christmas together. It was at this time, to her five-year Aelita seems to have had a mishap with a wolf that mark her life.
Unfortunatly, the worst experience was going to happen. Men in black tracked the fugitive couple. It was at this time Anthea was torn from Waldo and his daughter. It is unknown if she is still alive.
It seems that later, Waldo came back in Paris suburbs, in a house called the Hermitage. He changed his identity, taking his middle name and the maiden name of his wife for real identity, becoming Franz Hopper, father of Aelita Hopper, simple science teacher ... to Kadic Academy.
However, the mere science teacher hid a large illegal activities. Investing underground rooms in an abandoned factory, Franz created a computer complex containing a Supercomputer : A high-powered computer, allowing things to be impossible.
Franz will then begin two projects.
The first will be called XANA. A multi-agent program with the ability to grow in power over time. An exponential and endless potential. Franz will create this program in more than one specific purpose: to destroy Carthage. More precisely, the Carthage project, so that the very dangerous military program is not.
XANA will emerge. It is not known if successfully carried out its mission. We simply know that Franz Hopper suddenly ran out of time.
His enemies, the same who took his wife, were on his trail. His life was in danger.
He then created the second project, also colossal: A virtual universe run by the supercomputer. He linked his universe to the real world via scannographes with the ability to convert data into an entire body and the memory of an individual exhibiting a scan. From there, the genius had created a method to transfer the real world into the virtual world, or vice versa: virtualization and materialization.
Remained only to baptize the new world : Lyoko (from Japanese Lyoko: Travel).
The time was still lacking to Franz Hopper. However, a lucky discovery of a surprising property of Supercomputer gave him the time missing: Return in the past.
Through this overkilled process, Franz could go back in time, leaving free its memory and the data stored in the computer. The genius could therefore work quietly ... or almost ...
After thousands of backs in time and as the nerve health scientist alters, the demons of the past caught up with him and cars driven by state men came to his house one day in 1994.
Cornered, Franz took care to hide disks of the journal he had in a station locker and the key of this locker in a hidden place of the bedroom of his daughter.
Leaving his home and his life, Franz led Aelita through a secret passage and joined his laboratory by sewers. He programmed the scanners, decided to take her daughter to the only place where they would be safe: Lyoko.
Arrived on the virtual world, fate would play a new twist to Franz.
XANA, the multi-agent program designed to destroy Carthage had evolved to get a conscience and an almost human intelligence. Its primary instinct was to break its chains and go after its master. It attacked Franz to emancipate itself.
Hiding his daughter in a safe place, Franz tried to negotiate with his creation, to convince it to live in harmony. Unfortunately, he failed. Unable to contain the evil he had caused, Franz realized how his invention threatened humanity. Opting for the only solution he had to stop the program, he cut the supercomputer inside and plunged XANA, Aelita and himself in a deep sleep that will last forever ... unless the unlikely happens and that any person back on the supercomputer ...
J'espère qu'il n'y aura pas trop d'erreurs.
Si c'est OK je me lancerai sur une autre traduction.
