voici pour l'instant les deux premiers personnages que j'ai fait.
Il s'agit de Sissi et de Mily et Tamiya.
Sissi:
Spoiler
Characteristics :
Name : Elisabeth Delmas Nicknames : Sissi Age at the start of the series: 13
School :
Sissi paid better attention to her appearence and her love-stories than school ! Saying her own father is the Headmaster, she hope still having bad marcks, without being warned ! Her father seems idle about his daughter's aptitude, but penalties can be given like in #33 “Final Mix”.
Family : Her father his the headmaster of Kadic: Jean-Pierre Delmas.
We don't kow everything about her mother. She has a cousine, living “in the campaign”.
Other :
Sissi is complexed about her weight, which isn't warning.
We can notice that Sissi his the character who appears most of the time with differents clothes !
Role in the series :
Sissi is, most of the time, here to put obsacles in the ways of the heroes, and sow the ill-feeling between Ulrich and Yumi. She Wants, to any ways, discovers their secret, and will make anything to succed, enven if she had to hurt who she love.
So, her presence gives pikes into Ulrich and Yumi's love story.
All of this sum well the existence of the personnage, who will always try to do bad thing for our heroes (without precising she came back)...
They don't warry a lot from her, and she is sometimes under-estimated, that has annoyed them more than once, because Sissi has a few tricks up one's sleeve.
Character and behaviour :
If we see only the second and the third series, we can see a Stupid Sissi who doesn't think more tan the top of her nozen and who is focalised about her own body. But, before series 2 and 3, there where serie 1. Locgic, but between the first and the second, it had big changes !
When we discover her in #1 “Teddygozilla”, Sissi is apearing to us like a pretensious pest, whi may be a part of her personality. Being the daughter of the headmaster, it could be great when we are a girl like Sissi, who wants to be the star of the secondary school.
Pest with Milly, a youg girl in Year 7, and charming with Ulrich, her (non) secret lover !
Sissi has multiple aspects, and we will analyse all of them, starting by the most flagrant of them; she's a pest.
As a daughter of the headmaster, she arrange to not being ignored, being arrogant with the other students because of her father's status, she umilate people without any remorse... but is immediately rebuffed by Odd, who doesn't miss any opportunity to umiliate her thanks to his jokes, and baceause of that, become more and more pest, this is the endless circle (#5: Big Bug). She only care herself, as an egocentric, she wants to be center of the world and kow how take advantages of her father's position, when she need it. In the 30th episode, “A Great Day”, and in the 88th,“Cousin Once Removed”, she discover the false idnetity of Aelita and wants to give this information to her father. So, under appearances, Sissi isn't so stupid and this is dangerous for our heroes. In #4, Log Book, she stole Ulrich's diary and unse blackmail to the young man, but she did it only because there is no other way he was intersted in her.
Now, let's have a look to her nosey side. How many times did she menace the group's balance sowing discord between Yumi and Ulrich ? Spying Jeremie and Aelita ? Chasing Ulrich whit her constancy ? Many times, she put them in danger being too close to teir secret but always a Return to Past, will save the band. Their secrat is intact. But, like int the 80th, “Dog Day Afternoon”.
Sissi is also, sometimes, manipulative. Profiting the dissention between Milly and Tamiya, she take control of the “Kadic's Echoes” in the 66th “William Returns”. Up to the end, Sissi will always on the back of our heroes. In the last episode, “Echoes”, Jeremie must launch the last return in time to erase Elisabeth's memory, who rummage in hi diary, finding teir secret.
Her stupid side, that we had more than time to see in the first series, is justified by her inmage's preocupation. From then on the second series, Sissi is only apparing to us to empty Odd's jokes. This is quite harm, because her nosey side is felt, but Wiliam took this role quickly.
Now, let's finich whith her touching side she shos us during some episode of the first series. In “Holidays in the Fog”, she confess Jim she wanted to enter Ulrich's group, but can't; they' re too differents. Thaf fact is, seeing her comportement suring series 2 and 3, we can only aprove it. Do you see, you, Sissi and Yumi saving the world together, her perfect antagonist ? Apparently not ! In the 14th, “The Trap”, Sissi heals Ulrich's brocken arm; and the young man realized that she's a nice person, she only needs affection. The same affection her father don't seems to give, osessed by his work. Regarding to Sissi's mon, we never heared about her; and we can guess sh's dead.
Sissi is only a secondary character, but her character insn' t so simple. Thos young girl has various sides, who defines her has a human being.
Story
Sissi, the daughter of Kadic's headmaster. Love Ulrich Stern since she knows hin, that is to say since the Reception. The day of entering at school, when they were in Year 8, she gave a rendez-vous to Ulrich her her bedroom at might... but the boy didn't came. Angry, she leave the place and saw Ulrich running quiqkly in the corridor, pursued by his roomate. Not really undersanding, Sissi follows Ulrich with Odd, caying there are another girl belong this, but Odd says it was his dog : Kiwi.
Once in the scanners room where Odd found his dog, she saw the young man entered the box, whit doors closes without leave time to Odd to escape.
Terrified, she started to shout to help, whereas she wasn't menaced.
After reassured her, Ulrich proposes she goes to Lyoko, but she refused..... before accepting it the day after, when Jeremie ask the to ascort Aelta into the red tower. She sweared, in the same time as the boys to keep the secret.
Unforunately,The youg girl will never be able to go to Lyoko, because she will be attacked by an elecrtic energised ball. When she came round, she took her father ang Jim, the guard. Into the sewers to go to the factory, they all find Jeremier attacked by the sphere of energy. After Aelita disactivate the tower, Sissi take posirion of her father and Jim, which was to shut down the machine. She pretext she said it was too dangerous, thing, of course, she never did,and incured the hostility od the group: she didn't keep the secret; so flet her oath.
Sissi fogott all whith the Return to the Past, but sense a secret united the four friends, and wanted to discover it.
Several times, she put spokes in the weels of the heroes, boy curiosity, or by jalousy. As she is stuck to the group wanting to find what they hide, Sissi is often a victim of X.A.N.A.... and it's XANAtification (30th and 88th episodes)
Sometimes, Sissi knows inportants moments with the heroes; to get out a member to his father's office (19th episode, “Frontier”) or replace Yumi during classes' photos (34th episode, “Missing link”)
Oddly, her nosey and her nice side are alternated : In the episode 19, she helps heores only after a kiss from Ulrich (clenching his teeth) wereas in the episode 34, she helps the heroes wonderning nothing in exchange.
She stole a kiss to an hurted Ulrich in #41: “Ultimatum”.
Milly et Tamiya:
Spoiler
Characteristics
Name:
Milly Solovieff
Tamiya Diop
School: Boarders
Whe only knows they're in year 7. and they work for the Secondary Scool's newspapers, "Kadic's Echoes".
Other:
Both of the journalits are always with their cameras and polaroids. They're obsessed by scoops and gossips ! Their papers, "Kadic's Echoes" is the only one of the school, and talk of this and that, but moyhing serious.
Also, Hiroki Ishiyama is in love with Milly
Role in the series
Milly and Tamiya are appearing often when we don't wait about, taking scoop's photos of filming with eagerness (episode 42: "A fine Mess"). They can feel happy, but can be nosy (like in the episode 65 "Final Round"; they stop Jeremie such a long time).
Both schoolgirls often suffer by Sissi's badness who made the ridculous for her personnal pleasure (1st episode, "Teddygodzilla")
We hav to note that the series open whith them, of their camera's screen ! A journalists, they will anouce what will happened in an episode (50th "Contact"). As good reporters, they did often commentaries to the biggest envents of Kadic, like football matches (21st "Zero Gravity Zone") or robotics meetings (20th, "The Robots")
Sometimes, they are weetnesses of XANA's attcks, but like most of others characters, they enrent powerfull against them. (40th “Attack of the Zombies” and 86th “Canine Conundrum”).
I finish remarquing that even they are secondaries characters, Milly and Tamiya are an essential component of Kadic's scene. They sometimes intervened in the heroes' fight. One time they will found the factory, in the episode 81 “A Lack of Goodwill”, with William's double. Frightened, they will assit to the battle against the real William and his copy.
Courageous, they attend to interfer... without a great sucsess, of course. At the end of the fight, they are interveiwing to the choco-warriors”....
They block the heroes in the 89th episode, “ Music Soothes the Savage Beast”, victims of xanatification. Once again, a past return will erase their memories.
Character and behaviour
Passinate, Milly and Tamiya had only one center of interst, their newspaper ! They spend their break to search for scopps and nothing can stop them, they wats to be real proffesionals, talking about “press liberty” !
But they are also shy by some ways, for example, Milly says Ulrich is a beautifull boy... However, when they are on a scoop, nothing can stop them ! Photos, introdution in classrooms (#10 “The Girl of the Dreams”) , interviews; their journalistic witty eloquence is nothing similar in the whole school !
Milly and Tamiya are arcordung to them very well and share a complicity which seems send in thhe 65th episode “Final Round”, when the era quarelling acording to their role they have. But Sissi, taking control of the news, they beacam reconcilied, with a common enemy.
Voici les premiers d'un longue liste...
EDIT: voici deux suivants:
Hervé: (Herbs)
Spoiler
Characteristics
Name: Herb Pichon
School: Boarder
Herb is a very good student. Unlucky to him, he is in the same class than Jeremy, and can't beat him (except in the 64th episode, “Double Trouble”) in spite of his efforts, which increase his bitterness agins the group !
We don't know if Herb is an hardworker or “just” clever, but his marks are overwhelmingly over the 10.
Family:
Unknown
Other:
Herbs has acne and his face, covered by spots, give his several taunts, his friend Nicolas first.
As Jeremy, Herbs is good in robotic ! We saw him with his “Iron Sissi”, the robot he made to the robotic meeting, and even if it isn't very beautyfull, it is very sucsessfull. He can also create, very fast, a mini-bot being able to enter XANA's one and destroy it (#20 “The Robots”)
Role in the series:
We saw often Herbs in the first season, always between Sissi and Nicolas. Herbs is only a spectator
of Sissi's evil plans, just comenting them. Sissi use Herb's knowledge in informatic to satisfy her activities.
In fact, Herbs is a folower. He let himself drag into night fishing (#73, “Replika”) or a spiritism lesson (#48, “Is Anybody Out There?”). He is Sissi's flunkey, watching the door when she clothes and watching sentimental TV series when she can't.
He provocs often the heroes but he shows himself more ridiculous than anything. He takes action only if someone is too much interested on Sissi, like Theo (episode 16: “ Claustrophobia”). Enven in this case, the Heroes make him ridiculous !
Finaly, Herbs, only having a minor role, is a character who is almost pathetic, by his hopelessness and his strong sentiments against Sissi, she neglect. Only once, he try to smash the face of Ulrich, to he hurt himself, covering whith ridicule. ( #43, “Xana's Kiss”)
He helps the heroes only once, in the 20th episode, “The Robots”, where, without Jeremy, he helps them to destroy a 3 meters high killig robot, send by XANA.
However, he's Xanatified in the episode 88, “ Cousins Once Removed”.
Character and behaviour
Herbs has an unenviable character: Short-tempered, obstinate, envious, frustrated, unpleasant, jealous... This character is jalous of Jeremy and Ulrich ! Jeremy because he is more clever, getting better marks than him. And Ulrich, because Sissi saw only him.
Herbs is more fustrated because he don't want to see Sissi's choices, and know Ulrich will never be interested by her. Unfortunately, we can't change his phisical appearance.....
So, Herbs is never ending grumbling, mumbling, looking with jealousy, etc. He want to punch Ulrich in his face, but he's scared or hurt himself after ridiculous chaining events. (#15, “Laughing Fit”)!
He always dream Sissi saw him a day, and is ready to elaborate every vicious plans angins any people who goes too near her. (#16 “Claustrophobia”)
It is close to Herbs before he chuckle. We see it when one of the heroes are telling of by the teachers. He doesn't hesitates to denounce those he doesn't like.
Herbs obey toe the line to Sissi, and seems to be unable to make a decision alone, like in the 30th episode, “A Big Day”). His intellect isn't put fuorward... Front of the pest, Herbs stay sheepish and quiet, frightened being boot out Sissi's group.... He can't refrain going wild with laught when Sissi he being snub by Ulrich (#22, “Routine”). Sometimes, we saw hin completely put out, when Sissi is snub whith him, let him having misplaced joy to better rebuff him (#53, “Straight to Heart” or #43, “Xana's Kiss”)
When Sissi hisn' with him, he stay with Nicolas, but they're more quarelling than something else (#24 “Ghost Chanel”), going to hands (#30, “A Big Day”)
Packed, Herbs his fearfull and allways run in the face of XANA's attacks, aspecially the zombies army (#40, “Attack of the Zombies”)
In only one episode we see Hebs' good side, it's the 20th, “The Robots”, where he helps, under blackmail, the heroes fighting XANA. Yumi herself, admit Herbs can be frindly sometimes....
et Sam:
Spoiler
Characteristics
Name: Samantha Knight
Nicknames: Sam
School:
We think San is in the same class than Odd, in grade eight, at Matheson High Scool !
Knowing all commun point between her the Loko-warrior, we can guess she has bad mark, end Odd show us she's in trouble in her college (#23 : “Rock Bottom”) !
Family:
We don't know anything about her family. She might be from a poor area !
Appearance:
To seduce Odd, we could think Samantha was like herself : thin, with nice hair, black haired whith red highlights, dark skin !
Her hair always semms great, even after sporting achievement !
Clothing:
Samantha has, like Odd, strange clothes, with a red mini-skirt on black pants. Her T-shirt is black/grey. She wear black shoes and necklace
Other:
Samantha is as good as Odd in Skateboard !
They are kissing involuntarily on the 23rd episode, “Rock Bottom”.
Role in the series:
Samantha is the only girl Odd love ! She appear on the 23rd episode, where she suffer, little as a spactator, XANA's attack ! On this only episode, we show Odd shy and bluched ! He kiss her involuntarly, failing his attend to kiss her on the cheek (all the art of french's custum, hihi ). Howhever, the young girl will wake trouble to the heroes ! She attand to stole a laptop computer and Odd will be accused, avoiding exclusion by a return to past !
Samybe to the serie's needs, Samantha will disapear, we only know she move to the other side of the contry.
She came back for a single day (#65, “Last Round”) et we find Odd under her spell, even if, this time, is might be more mutual ! Another time, she will trouble the hero, didn't showing her an important message from Ulrich !
Character and behaviour:
Acording to Odd, Samantha is a “very cool” girl ! Stylish, paying attention to her apearance, Samantha is a bon vivant girl who like chalanges, trendy music....
Nevetheless, she's an egoist person ! Maybe she from a poor area, but it don't explain all ! In the 23rd episode, “Rock Botom”, she doesn't hesitate before stealing the comuter, justifing by “The assurance will pay”
On the pisode 65, “Last Round”, she don't pass important information to Odd, pretexting she doesn't want to let him go ! Even if love is worthy, we way not judge a book by its cover....

Difficulties (Jim) :
Spoiler
”il n'apprécie guère Jérémie !” > “he is not very confident about Jeremy” beh ! Jim doesn't actually hate Jeremy, does he ?
“Il lui reproche les punitions allégées qu'il dispense aux élèves le qualifiant de "faible".” > Who inflicts light punishment and who does the reproaching is grammatically unclear, and I don't remember the scene this sentence is about.
“statut de pion dans un bahut de banlieue” > “banlieue” is the real problem here (“pion” and “bahut” being informal vocabulary). Literally, it applies to suburbs but also to ghettoes…Kadic academy, however, is not located in what you'd call a suburb since it IS in a continuous urban fabric ; but it's not a ghetto properly speaking either. It's just that it is in Paris' fringes…So I considered the term impossible (and useless) to translate.
“Il tient un dernier carré face à une meute de Kiwi 2” > I don't get it. “obtenir un carré” seems to be some idiom I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with cards (carré means four of a kind)…
“A été meneur d'interrogatoire (Episode 90 « Médusée »)” > No trace of that in the english version…couldn't check the french one.
Once again, a bonus URL hidden somewhere
Characteristics :
Spoiler
Occupation :
Jim is a supervisor at Kadic academy and he also fulfils the function of sports teacher. He often praises his discipline to the skies.
It supposedly fulfilled more or less shady jobs before that (see this part for more details).
Family :
There seems to be no woman in his life, and he doesn't seem to have children. All that we know is that his uncle is Chris, the drummer of the Subdigitals, which implies that Jim has at least one sister of brother.
Others :
Jim's closest relations amongst the teachers in Kadic appear to be Mr Delmas and Ms Hertz.
One of his distinctive traits is the band-aid on his left cheek. It always seem to be fire-new even though Jim continuously wears it, as if Jim changed it regularly. Only Jim knows what is hidden underneath!
We know from episode 2 “Seing is Believing” that he plays slide trombone and from episode 53 “Straight to Heart” that he is a fan of disco. However, in episode 33 “Final Mix”, he says that he is more into Rock'n'Roll.
One last note: he collects the paper birds that Odd makes during class tests.
Role in the series :
Spoiler
Jim corresponds per se to many archetypes of cartoon characters. He can embody the thick, clumsy guy, the pain in the neck who throws a spanner in our heroes' works, or even sometimes the somewhat sadistic sports teacher!
Generally speaking, Jim often gets to be a pain. He restrains our heroes by constantly making them undergo an annoying, restricting surveillance. In episode 25 “Code Earth” and in episode 61 “Sabotage”, Jim holds Jeremy back in the academy while the situation on Lyoko is critical. In those situations, the heroes would really like the supervisor to leave them alone!
Jim's second function – and not the least! – is to be a comic relief. Indeed, seeing that thick, gauche guy running around trying to figure out what our heroes are up to and ending up being the fool of the day actually turns out to make us laugh. What's more, Jim is quite clumsy and tends to play the stuntman, which always ends up quite a lame way for him. Especially his demonstrations in PE classes, like when he tries to teach them the pommel horse and takes a tumble, while Odd makes a perfect figure on his first attempt (episode 79 “Bragging Rights”)!
Not to mention his ability to brag and bluster, and the mysterious parts of his life he'd rather not talk about!
We can also mention that he is pretty much of a failure as a seducer when he tries to woo Yolanda or Ms Hertz (episodes 32 “Saint Valentine's Day” or 43 “XANA's Kiss”).
The two-episode final of season 1 are Jim's 15 minutes of glory in the series, when he helps the heroes in their fight against XANA in order to get back his job. It is in those episode that Jim actually appears as he truly is. He is seen to be very protective towards his students and faces XANA's army of Kankrelats bravely, risking his life without sneaking off! Later, Jim can prove again his courage on many occasions.
Character and behaviour :
Spoiler
One of Jim's main characteristics is that he is more than what he actually is.
When you watch his class, you would rather have the impression to be looking at a drill sergeant of a GI commando that is about to go to was! He leads them with an iron fist and anyone who rebels against his authority is severely punished, like William in episode 59 “The Secret”.
During his long monologues about sports, he always glorifies his discipline as the noblest discipline Earth has ever produced. Which is why he is not very confident about Jeremy.
When he surveys the library, silence is golden rule and Jim mercilessly uses all his power on unfortunate, disobedient students. The rules of the school are is everyday Bible!
But in the end, Jim is just a poor low-paid public servant who is housed in a small studio flat as caretaker, whose only hobby is to supervise his students even during vacation.
Because of this almost ratty life, Jim tries to highlight himself by showing off (episode 56 “False Lead”) and his supreme dream would be to find out what plot is going on behind his back between Jeremy, Odd, Yumi and Ulrich. Therefore he really behaves like a real paranoid, following our four heroes wherever they go and inflicting them an almost domineering surveillance!
Yet, this conceals another part of Jim's personality, that is his large heart. Indeed, when something goes wrong, Jim is always there, making use of his talents as a lifesaver of bravely facing anything that XANA can come up with! This is especially clear in episodes 26 and 39 “False Start” and “A Bad Turn”, when Jim fights without hesitation any monster XANA can send.
In episode 53 “Straight to Heart”, we even see his imperialistic face fading away when he takes pity on Odd, who he separated from his friends.
Jim remains quite clumsy and tends to speak to fast, which obligates him to then resort to his favourite catchphrase: “I'd rather not talk about it”.
Finally, his temperament wears the Principal out, as well as a few students who nickname him “GI-Jim”. The opposition between his both eccentric and strict personality, and the quite moderate behaviour of the Principal, turns those two into a comic duo. Jim reproaches the Principal with the lightened punishments he gives to the students and considers him “weak”.
Story :
Spoiler
We don't know anything about Jim's childhood, except that he was, according to him, blond-haired and thin.
However, in his speeches, he gives hints that he had quite a thrilling life before ending up as a monitor at Kadic academy…
All we know for sure is that he was once a disco dancer in a movie. Except for that, it is much harder to tell precisely what he pretends to have done from what he actually did…
To sum it up, we are told that this PE teacher has already been doing some manual labour like working in the sewers (episode 29 “Exploration”) or being a forest ranger in Quebec (prologue episode “XANA Awakens”), but also that he has had some more intellectual occupations like working in a mental institution (episode 47 “Tip-Top Shape”)! If we take into account his most shady actions like working for secret service (episode 56 “False Lead”) or investigating paranormal phenomena (episode 58 “The Pretender”), this PE teacher has many incredible secret!
Did he actually serve as a research subject for the space exploration program? Was he a TV cameraman? Unverifiable…
Also, he does not disavow his sportive side when he claims that he was a pro basketball player (episode 53 “Straight to Heart”) and a roller derby champion once (episode 65 “Final Round”), or that he masters the Raging Hand of Lei Fu Chang! No less!
On the top of that, in episode 3 “Holiday in the Fog, he reveals that he has been a supervisor for more than 20 years! Really, when did he get the time to do all of that?
At this point of the cartoon, Jim is but an inadequately-housed monitor who spends his life waging war on students in order to enforce absolute respect of the Rules! Many strange phenomena occur around him yet he cannot explain it; sometimes, he happens to be a victim of these unexplained events (episode 1 “Teddygozilla”, episode 3 “Holiday in the Fog”, episode 23 “Rock Bottom?”, episode 63 “Triple Trouble”, episode 68 “Opening Act”). Fortunately, the Returns to the Past are here to erase the memory of our poor supervisor, and to save him just in time!
There even is an episode in which Jeremy says that he is tired of explaining what is gong on in the factory while he constantly keeps forgetting it!
Jim's guts tell him that something weird is going on inside Jeremy's little gang and he enjoys playing the role of the spy who tries to uncover their plot. His attempts to do so, however, often end up as pathetic failure.
So Jim goes back to the little life of a PE teacher who takes students to the infirmary when it is needed, or enforces the order in the dormitories or in the restaurant…
But after many mounts, his patience dries up and the supervisor starts asking direct questions to our heroes, demanding that they say the whole truth! Unfortunately, the Principal puts a damper on his enthusiastic efforts and orders him to stick at being a teacher for the good of everyone, instead of playing detectives (episode 25 “False Start”).
Yet, because of his pride, Jim would not give up that easily! He continues to observe our heroes in silence, biding his time…Then one day, when he sees Jeremy coming back from the park while he should have been in class, Jim starts running after him. But Jeremy, hurtling down the stairs to escape from the supervisor, has an impressive bad fall and breaks his ankle!
The consequences are tragic for Jim and all his quiet, cherished little world suddenly comes apart: refusing to forgive this grave fault, tells him he is fired! Broken and realizing that he has made a mistake and that he would miss his quiet job as a PE teacher, Jim still visits Jeremy to apologize for the last time…now, he is about to leave the room…yet…
Without warning, Jeremy asks him to wait, ready to confess.
The junior high-schooler admits that he and his friends indeed hid a secret and makes an offer: if Jim helps him joining his friends, in exchange, he will tell the whole truth to the Principal.
Hurrying headfirst, the supervisor loads Jeremy onto his shoulder and vanishes from the infirmary, guided by his new ally who leads him through the park to an entrance in that sewers leading to an abandoned factory. Exulting when he discovers that he was right, he listens to Jeremy, who tells the whole story: Aelita, XANA, the digital world, the scanners ad materialization! Jim probably retains only one tenth of all the stuff he heard, but that is more than enough. What actually matters most to him, is that when the kids' quest is over, he will get back his job at school.
A few minutes later, a young girl appears in the scanners, a girl Jim does not know! According to Jeremy, she comes from a digital world and her appearance means that the children will unplug the Supercomputer and reinstate Jim as a teacher.
But the events do not turn as well as planned. Jim has to stay at the factory and for reasons that are beyond him, the hellish machine cannot be deactivated without endangering the pink-haired young girl. So the supervisor resigns himself to wait..
While he was getting bored in his squat in the factory, the next morning, Jim is woken up by a surprise! There are strange creatures walking around in the factory and leaving elsewhere, that look like cockroaches with a powerful laser beam by way of an eye. Understanding that these came from the digital world, Jim arms himself with an iron pole and moves onto the offensive. He takes down a great bunch of enemies before he is joined by the Lyokowarriors in the scanner room. Odd leaves him with a nail gun so he can go lend a hand to Yumi and Ulrich who fight the monsters that reached the school. Jim greets the fair-haired boy as he enters the scanner, then he dashes off!
His comeback at Kadic is spectacular. Shouting a long, enthusiastic “banzai!”, he shoots at many monsters, sending them straight to Kankrelats' Hell. While Ulrich and Yumi head for Lyoko running, he continues to face the threat on Earth and to protect his former students, but this time he gets hit several times. Lying on the ground, on the roots of a tree, our hero, Jimbo, finds himself at close of day…then, a Return to the Past saves him.
Unfortunately for him, Jim loses all of his memories and begins following again to find out thir secret. Our heroes, however, radically change their behaviour towards him, even covering up for him in front of the headmaster. Because now, they know that Jim is a hero (episode 26 “False Start”).
Later, Jim rediscovers the factory several times (episode 29 “Exploration”, episode 55 “Tidal Wave”, episode 68 “Opening Act”) and does not remember it either: indeed, each time it happens, Jeremy launches a return to the past with a sight and reminding his teacher that he has already been here before. Anyway, except for our heroes, Jim is probably the character who sets foot in the factory the most often.
Since he is one of Kadic's main characters, XANA does not fail to notice him and xanafies him three times (episode 33 “Final Mix”, episode 54 “Lyoko Minus One”, episode 91 “Bad Connection”), since he is one of the most impressive opponents.
With time, the supervisor gets bored of his espionage missions, yet he does not stop establishing his authority on students. However, when things get out of hand, our heroes know that they can count on Jim to help them facing XANA's attacks on Earth – with little success, sadly!
Even though he is brave and strong, Jim stands little chance in front of a food colossus (episode 55 “Tidal Wave”), two xanafied secret agents (episode 56 “False Lead”) or a materialized Krab (episode 39 “A Bad Turn”).
His last heroic battle is against a pack of very aggressive Kiwi 2 (episode 86 “Canine Conundrum”). He is even daring enough to fight a wild boar in the forest to protect his students (episode 74 “I'd Rather Not Talk About It”). Our heroes are so aware of Jim's skills that they ask him for a special training to be in tip-top shape to face XANA. They bitterly regret it when they see the military level of Jim's demands, but this very special moment with their teacher becomes the occasion to hear him talk about his life a little…
All Kadic learns to discover Jim from a new angle. The first time is when Sissi makes sure that the video clip from Paco, the King of Disco is broadcasted through Kadic's News. Even if Jim's first reaction is to getting revenge on Odd for not keeping the secret, he soon realizes that this revelation brought him cheers and popularity. Jim comes back in the limelight when the school learns that he is the uncle of Chris, the drummer of a fashionable music group: the Subdigitals.
By the time our heroes begin the War of the Network against XANA, Jim is not one of the main characters in the series anymore. Efficiently deceived by William's clone, whose “sense of humor” he particularly likes, without seing right through the hoax.
Still, homages are done to Jim's character since he is the one who closes the series in episode 95 “Echoes”, using his famous catchphrase: “I'd rather not talk about it” (just before the shots of our heroes who smile and wave to the viewers).
The epic ballad of GI Jim

Ms Hertz
Shaka (Suzanne) :
Spoiler
I don't know if “threat” is a good translation, sounds a little excessive…
“tous ses collègues ne sont pas d'accord avec elle en conseil de classe (épisode 62 « Désincarnation »)” > those who translated the episode guide must know what I felt…but though they translated as an “academic review”, I found out that Wikipedia redirects to “review by Peers” (which is inappropriate) and that it translates “conseil de classe” into “parent-teachers interview” (réunions parents-profs) which it is absolutely not! Since the concept of Conseil de Classe does not seem to exist, I just described it as a meeting. Which, in the end, it is.
“Difficile de faire rire quand on a un comportement si acétique !” > I translated “acetic” and note that it is the same pun that there is in the french version (“ascetic” means “ascétique”. You can rectify the spelling if you think the pun is lame
Characteristics :
Spoiler
Family : No information. She does not seem to be married since Jim appears to long for her.
Others : Ms Hertz seems to be in love with a certain Pedro (episode 62 “Nobody in Particular”) whom she wants to impress with ballroom dances such as Argentinean tango. But she is embarrassed by the idea of mentioning it in front of the students (episode 75 “Hot Shower”).
She is the most authoritarian teacher.
Besides, during the third season, she is the class teacher of the ninth grade students (that is to say, Jeremy, Aelita, Ulrich and Odd).
Role in the series :
Spoiler
As a representative of authority, Ms Hertz is emblematic of the obstacles in the fight against XANA. Several times, our heroes get stuck in her class during an attack, since the old teacher is stricter than Mr Fumet.
Ms Hertz gets even more troublesome when, according to the demands of her job, puts pressure on the heroes because of their bad reports, especially Ulrich, whom she wants to send in a ninth grade remedial (episode 62 “Nobody in particular”).
However, there are times when Ms Hertz' scientific explanations enable the heroes to figure out XANA's schemes. For instance, in episode 75 “Hot Shower”, it is her scientific literacy that convinces the Principal that Kadic must be evacuated when the meteor shower starts.
Contrary to what some people sometimes say, our heroes do not need any help from Ms Hertz: the science teacher lost her youth's vitality, she is too old to actually fight XANA; what is more, you understood that her personality is a hindrance to our heroes when they need to skip a class.
But the only time when Ms Hertz is actually a real nuisance is in episode 54 “Lyoko Minus One”. During a school trip with the tenth-graders, she gets xanafied, along with Jim and the rest of the class. William is the one who suffers the consequences of her xanafication, especially when she sends him to smash into a tree. In episode 91 “Bad Connection”, she is once more under the program's influence as well as all Kadic.
Character and behaviour :
Spoiler
As a very experimented teacher, Ms Hertz knows how to use stinging words and display lots of authority, unlike some of her colleagues of the same age, who seem to feel lost in front of that new generation. She does not tolerate any misconduct and does not hesitate to punish inopportune chattering or to take severe measures (episode 9 “Satellite”).
If a student gets bad marks, she makes it public information, sometimes harshly (episode 62 “Nobody in Particular”), and on the contrary, she praises good students like Herb and Jeremy.
She is a teacher who likes to explain everything, but she is also very demanding and her tests sometimes result in what you may call a slaughter!
As soon as she takes a decision, she is very determined. So she won't bow even in front of a mob of junior high-school students who beg for their confiscated phones (episode 9 “Satellite”) or when all her co-workers stand against her in a meeting of teachers (episode 62 “Nobody in Particular”).
To conclude, I would say that Ms Hertz is a good teacher, who does not hold a grudge against duncres (we can see that in episode 30 “A Great Day”, when she acknowledges the improvement of Odd's performances) and accepts to admit her mistakes (episode 24 “Ghost Channel”).
Ms Hertz rarely has a comical role, except when she makes fun of Sissi or Nicolas, or when she begs Jim to give her dance lessons!
Indeed, it is hard to be funny when you have such an acetic behaviour! In episode 15 “Laughing Fit”, the students (and the viewers as well) are astonished to see the old woman bursting out laughing under the effect of an hilarious gaz.

Nicolas
Shaka (Nicolas) :
Spoiler
“il se laisse rapidement emporté” > emporter
“Nicolas ne réfléchis pas plus pour donner des coups” > réfléchit
Difficulties (Nicolas) :
Spoiler
“Suivant Sissi comme son ombre” > “Following Sissi as if he was her shadow” : sounds idiomatic in French. Could not think of anything better.
“c'est encore une fois avec son compère Hervé qu'il doit servir le couvert.” > Once again, these pages are written in an über-excessively idiomatic language. Everything is so idiomatic that you can write almost anything, even if it is not an idiot and that means nothing, it will sound idiomatic that it will mean whatever you want to say!
Characteristics :
Spoiler
School :
Nicolas is in ninth grade, in the class of Jeremy Belpois, Ulrich Stern, Odd Della Robbia, Aelita Stones et his friends : Sissi Delmas et Herb Pichon.
He is the most feeble-minded student in the class and it is a miracle that he makes it in tenth grade. When Ms Hertz marks his papers, he often gets a goose egg.
Role in the series :
Spoiler
Nicolas is the punchbag of Sissi's gang, the one on who she and Herbs take it out when they are irritated. Our heroes do not pay much attention to that because of his limited intelligence. His giggles and his stupid voice make him a quite comical character.
Appeaing in the prologue episodes, Nicolas accompanies Herb in his quest for getting close to Sissi, whose fans they both are. They even fund a fan club, “Sissi's Friends”, that gathered together…well, only two members, actually: Herb and Nicolas.
Obedient, Nicolas puts up with almost anything without worrying or complaining about anything.
In episode 2 “Seing Is believing”, we have the opportunity to see another side of Nicolas: he plays drums like a pro. At first, he was shy because of Odd's jokes, but soon his passion for music takes over and thanks to that, he enters the rock band that Yumi, Odd and Ulrich have created.
During episode 26 “False Start”, when he sees Aelita for the first time, Nicolas seems to appreciate the charm of the young girl and it is certain that he does not complain in episode 43 “XANA's kiss”, when Aelita (actually, a polymorphic clone sent by XANA) kisses him before Jeremy's eyes.
Nicolas is keen on sports and watches it on TV.
In episode 35 “The Chips Are Down”, he becomes a frightening opponent for our heroes because XANA took control of him. It is the only episode in which Nicolas manifests any kind of interest for the conflict against XANA.
Character and behaviour :
Spoiler
Nicolas has a dull face and does not appear to be using his brain very much. The better-at-punching-than-thinking type. Following Sissi as if he was her shadow, he and Herb are a duo: he is the muscles, Herb is the brain. They could become an awesome duo if they were make use of their complementarity, but those two are Sissi's “fans” and they just follow her anywhere she goes, doing anything she wants. The most unequivocal example is in episode 30 “A Great Day”, when Sissi, under XANA's power, orders her two lackeys to lock Jeremy in the school's boiler room, which they execute obediently without asking questions.
“Sheep” is the most appropriate term to describe Nicolas' behaviour, since his personality is pretty much as bright as his peer Herb. Well, a sheep that can turn into a wolf as soon as he needs to use his fists. He does not put much more though before hitting someone than into doing an addition.
Nicolas, however, has another passion: fishing in the moonlight, which he calls “fantastic and breathtaking experience in the moonlight tonight”. He asks out quite anyone but in the end, once again, it is with his peer Herb that he finally spends this moment.
As luck would have it, their fishing session is not far away from the factory, in such a way that they see Odd and Aelita who are heading for the Supercomputer. Determined to discover what is going on, he enters the factory and Jeremy has to distract him from discovering the Supercomputer…and when they come back from their mission, to avoid returning to the past, Odd and Aelita fake a kiss, in order to bring to a conclusion the investigation of those troublesome witnesses.

Jean-Pierre (not the tamagotchi)
Shaka (Delmas) :
Spoiler
Difficulties (Delmas) :
Spoiler
“tout comme ses éternelles moustaches et sa barbe” > I didn't manage to translate “eternelle” properly…basically, it means that it is a part of him that cannot be taken away, you tend to feel some attachement for those…like Dumbledore's moon-shaped glasses, that's that kind of “éternel” detail…I said “unalienable”, but if “perpetual” or something else may be better…
“Dans un sens, il est très proche de ses élèves” > you'd basically said he is present, but the meaning is slightly more…intimate, I guess. No, not intimate of course, but for a headmaster that would mean that he does not stay in this ivory tower, his appearances are not only official. I ended up with a family-related analogy to translate that word.
Characteristics :
Spoiler
Name : Jean-Pierre Delmas
Occupation: Mr Delmas is the Principal of Kadic academy. He is a straight man whose precious time is mainly devoted to his job (apart from some guilty pleasures in front of a mysterious game about…penguins (episode 67 “Double Take”, episode 93 “Down to Earth”)).
Family: His daughter Sissi is a boarder in his own establishment. His wife, on the other hand, is absolutely unknown. According to an interview of Ms Decroisette, she is alive but lives far from her daughter and Mr Delmas. It is not rare, however, that fans believe that she is dead and develop Sissi's character accordingly.
Appearance: Mr Delmas is a solidly-built 40/50 years old man. He always wears rectangular glasses. His hairs are already grey, as his inalienable moustaches and beard!
There is a rumor according to which his design was directly inspired by the appearance of Kõji Morimoto, or that of Hayao Miyazaki, the famous Japanese director and producer of animated movies!
If you want to judge by yourself, be my guest.
**image**
Other: Mr Delmas is Kadic's supreme authority. His interventions are unusual compared to those of Jim, so when our heroes are called in his office, it really is a bad sign.
What's more, he has much more authority than the supervisor. However, in some episodes, his reasonable punishments do not meet the expectations of Jim, who disapprove of his boss' weakness (episode 73 “Replika”).
Role in the series
Spoiler
As we said previously, the Principal is the ultimate authority in Kadic: when he stumbles across our heroes, the consequences are always very serious.
So the Principal often gets to be the troublesome bad cop. Yet, he does not do anything but his job! Since he is less present in the field than Jim, he is not aware about our gang's little plots; however, the supervisor and other teachers do not hesitate over sending Jeremy and the others to his office in case of bad behaviour. Also, Sissi is very skilful when it comes to making use of her father's high status for her own interests, which are generally opposed to those of our friends (episode 3 “Holiday in the Fog”)…The principal also appears when Odd and Ulrich get bad reports or skip classes.
Unfortunately, in the end, he finally notices the Lyokowarriors' abusive absences and chronic lateness, when XANA's attacks get harder and harder to bear and counter (episode 64 “Double Trouble”)…He is also the one our heroes have to deal with when they have to find a justification for William's absence after his xanafication and disappearance in episode 65 “Final Round”. Jeremy resorts to his voice synthesiser to imitate the voice of William's father and comes up with various canards. But the way, our whiz kid also uses the synthesiser to usurp the principal's authority and identity: he calls Sissi and orders her to go back to Kadic to study, which diverts our dear pest from spying Yumi (episode 80 “A Dog Day Afternoon”).
As headmaster of Kadic, Mr Delmas must also take care of all the administrative tasks, be it presiding over teachers' official meetings (episode 62 “Nobody in Particular”), welcoming important people (episode 45 “Cold War”), or managing finances (episode 6 “Cruel Dilemma”). He also has to face angry parents such as William's, who realize that their son disappeared and was replaced with a vegetative clone (episode 93 “Down to Earth”).
Mr Delmas should not be considered as a killjoy, but rather as a very responsible man. When he undergoes XANA's attacks, he always has appropriate reactions and he is very concerned about the security of his students. He does not hesitate before evacuating the academy when Ms Hertz tells him that a meteor rain is about to occur. Still, the scope of the events is sometimes a little over his head, especially in front of two agents from secret services, or of a giant aggressive ball of electricity!
There are only two typical situations when he intervenes in the fight against XANA.
The first category includes the four times when he discovered the factory (episode “XANA Awakens part 2”, episode 10 “The Girl of the Dreams”, episode 29 “Exploration”, episode 56 “False Lead”). In each case, his position is always straight: the students made a serious infringement to the rules. Luckily, the Return to the Past minimizes the damage.
The other possibility is the case when XANA takes control of this good man. In episode 41, he is forced into kidnapping Odd and Yumi before sending an ultimatum: if Aelita does not hands herself over to the Schyphozoa, the two hostages will be executed. Once again, thanks to Jeremy's EMP bomb, our heroes make it out even though Odd and Yumi, as well as Ulrich, are on the verge of dying!
Just this once, XANA xanafies the good man twice. Using his authority, he ensures that Ulrich, Yumi, Odd and Jeremy stay in detention while he takes Aelita to Lyoko to turn her to the Schyphozoa (episode 90 “Wrong Exposure”). He gives Odd a hard time with martial arts and hand-to-hand combat. At last, in episode 91 “Bad Connection”, the principal gets one last free ride with the rest of his staff when the program xanafies everyone in the academy using cellphones.
Character and behaviour :
Spoiler
The principal is a straight, upstanding man who remains true to his values and who does not allow himself to be easily troubled. He is fond of his work and runs Kadic perfectly. He is always very present and open, he even lives in his own establishment while his salary certainly enables him to treat himself to better than that. Even at night, in case of absolute necessity (episode 29 “Exploration”)/
Towards students, he is just and he acknowledges the qualities of each one. He is more liable to give a second chance to a studious person like Yumi than to a bad student like Odd. When his students are disturbed, he is not unmoved: he always try to understand the reasons behind blameworthy behaviours and other shortcomings (episode 6 “Cruel Dilemma”).
In a sense, he acts a very paternal way. Whatever the event or the show that the students set up, he attends to it (episode 15 “Laughing Fit”, episode 60 “Temporary Insanity”). Any kind of activity is authorized under the condition that there is no discrimination (for instance, Odd's music group in episode 2 “Seeing Is Believing”), and he also supervises diverse training days (episode 39 “A Bad Turn”).
With time, this characters gains some charisma and you must notice that nobody in the academy dares to question his authority (except XANA maybe). Jim should really take a leaf out of his book! The principal is also empowered with the right to heavily sanction teachers by firing them (episode 25 “Code: Earth”) or students, by suspending them (episode 9 “Satellite”).
But the principal does have a weak point: his daughter Sissi!
Indeed, as soon as Sissi is involved, Mr Delmas seems to soften. Maybe she is all he has got left in his life…
Anyhow, our twisted pest sure knows how to make use of her influence over her father. He never puts up solid resistance to her pleas (except in episode 33 “Final Mix” in which Sissi's marks are too bad !) On the contrary, in episode 19 “Frontier”, she gets Yumi out of a bad situation thanks to one of those occult forces she is the only one to master; and such an influence over the headmaster is an incredible power. It's a chance that for once, Sissi's objectives matches those of our heroes! However, Jean-Pierre seems to be conscious of his daughter's attitude, that exasparates jim in spite – or because – of his lack of rigidity.
When his daughter is hurt, Mr Delmas is deeply worried and even panics a little, which is normal coming from a father (episode “XANA Awaken part 2”). He is also concerned about her mental health when, in episode 95 “Echoes”, she bursts into his office and unloads confusedly that she discovered the truth about our heroes' double life; he tries to take her to the hospital by force. One last detail: episode 53 “Straight to Heart” reveals that he keeps permanently a photo of his daughter in his office.
Even when he is afraid, the principal is able to remain stoic. Be it when he faces the men in black (episode 56 “False Lead”) or when Yumi is aimed at by the military satellite (episode 9 “Satellite”).
One of his bravest actions is when he throws himself on one of the xanafied agents of episode 56 “False Lead” to prevent him from hurting Jeremy. That perfectly illustrates his constant concern about the security of his students.
He appears glad to welcome back William (or at least the one he thinks to be William) when his clone enters the academy (episode 67 “Double Take”).
He and Jim form a comical duo that often offers us funny scenes highlighting the contrast between those two adults and their opposite lifestyles. However, given the photo discovered in Sissi's room in episode 87 “A Space Oddity”, it seems that Mr Delmas has a hidden, jovial side…
