Okay, let me make a new subject to talk about.
Would you please give the differences between a forum and a social network? Of course, you can give examples of some cases on this forum.
Tell us what you prefer and why.
It's a good argumentative exercise in English, isn't it? |

Happy valentines day to everyone, and remember it's not only for lovers, but also for everyone you care about <3
YOU for example |
So this whole time, I thought you and Leslie were two different people xD Until I saw someone gave you a squirrel picture for Valentine's. Anyhow, I added you to the English Skype chat now.
Also thanks <3
Anyhow, hmm, forums aren't considered social networks?
I prefer forums I think. On social networks, it's really easy for your posts to not receive any attention or be overlooked in the mass of information other people post. On forums, it's easier for everyone to share what they have to share and be heard.
So, I'm watching the Olympics here and the American commentators absolutely cannot say French names. A guy named Faivre Picon was in it, and the American commentator called him "Farver Pecan" xD
Edit: Fu, I'm a dumb American too. My dear "Farver Pecan" is a woman, not a guy. _________________

I think the main difference is power dynamics. In forums, power is held and hanged down by an arbitrary despot, and its objective is to prevent flood, censor speech, and banish any unpriviledged user who defies the rules and order he set himself. Thus is created a clean dystopia, in which every citizen respects orthograph and grammar, avoids taboo subjects, and bows to the representants of a law they didn't chose.
On the other hand, "social network" are a place where apparent freedom and omnipresent consumerism (ads, games, groups) distract people both from building actual relationships, or from thinking about their purpose, which is seeing and controling information, until everything is known to them. Thus people are slowly prepared to an age when the grand democratic illusion will take a new form : not only will it be in politics, but also in the economy, and in every single part of our life.
To sum it up, facebook is evil, while forums merely reproduce tyranny.[/troll]
Edit : Faivre is a rare name, but indeed, I've never seen a male person/character with it _________________

So I finally got around to editing the first lesson post. There's still work to be done on it though. I still need to touch up some of the examples, which I will do probably later today. For now, here's a quick linky to get to the updated lesson. Thanks again to Belgarel for helping point out any mistakes and giving me some good feedback. And as always, if you have any suggestions or notice any mistakes, please say so! _________________

Well, who all wants to join the first audio chat? Even if it just ends up being one person, that's fine. Once we know who wants to join, then we can figure out when we'll all be available.

Me.
I use Linux on virtual machins and some other pcs but I use Windows 8 Pro on my gaming pc. I like Windows 8, this system works perfectly, no bugs...
For Linux, I use Debian with cinnamon. On Ubuntu, I have many bugs :/
I don't like mac osx because it's too close for me. _________________

I know that Linux is better but for games, it's Windows.
Windows 8 work perfectly on my pc instead of Windows 7, on seven I had many blue screens and other bugs, freezes... _________________

Wow ! I've never seen anybody saying that Windows 8 works well oO
I use it and it really sucks.
It's why I've also a partition of Backtrack GNOME (don't ask me why Backtrack) when I've enough of Windows 8. _________________

@pingoleon60 : Why ??? Windows 8 work correctly, I don't understand why it couldn't work ??? Because it just have new UI ??? And for the other, Windows 8 isn't more close than Windows 8 (I see that everyday). You can, if you don't like, skip Modern UI, it's easy.
And for secure boot, it's not a Windows feature but a BIOS (UEFI) feature ! Windows 8 just support it instead of Windows 7. All os can support secure boot. _________________

You don't use Windows as far as me I see (and I shouldn't).
Compatibility is the bigger argument. Only it proves that Windows 8 sucks. Have you ever seen how many softs and games don't work on W8 ?
I think about Half-Life (the very first), RPG Maker, Age of Empire, and so on.
How many functionnalities they deleted ?
What about stability ?
What about system processes' crashs ?
I don't like Microsoft products, but here it should be illegal. _________________

I use old games on Windows 8, on windows 8 32 bits, I can use 16 bits apps and they work perfectly.
Compatibility ??? You can use Windows Vista/7 drivers and apps on it. If a developer don't want to update his soft, the problem isn't Windows but the developer. Windows 8 don't crash on my pc, instead of Windows 7, this s*** bug everydays, on all my pcs, both 32 and 64 bits. Buying Windows 7 was my biggest error... _________________
