The Ice Sector on holomap
Characteristics
Spoiler
Temperature: -15°C (5°F)
Climate: Polar
Characteristics: Nocturnal atmosphere
Humidity: None
Description: A night and dark atmosphere for calmness comparable to that of the freezing big cold. Winter permanently falls on this Sector, however, the snow never falls. It ceaselessly covers the soil with a fine layer, soil which is constituted only of eternal ice! (We will notice in season 1, small brown parts of virtual land sometimes appear under the ice. The evolution of the design after the season 1 will eliminate this anomaly).
It is clear that so much ice makes the soil slippery for heroes as monsters. The latter handle more or less this element (although Kankrelats is sometimes hard put to slow down themselves). The Heroes, them, carefree stem the sideslip as long as they are in their bodies and not in those of a friend (like Odd and Yumi in episode 42 "A Fine Mess").
Such is the Ice Sector: Large plateau of ice linked by long paths, just as frozen. Mountains of ice are very present, fewer than in the Mountain Sector since none floats above the empty however icebergs grow everywhere on frozen plateaus of the Ice Sector, and with them, they bring other surprises: sumptuous ice caverns, waterfalls, rivers and tunnels!
The Ice Sector is by far the Sector where we find the most water!
Topological particularities
Spoiler
Numerous characteristics make the Ice Sector an uncommon Sector and pleasant to visit. Some fights that lead our heroes inside are simply one-off.
If soils Desert, Mountain and Forest are very hard, the soil of the Ice Sector is no exception unlike that it is fissile and breakable. Odd and Ulrich therefore take advantage of this rather unusual attribute in episode 38 "Temptation" when they crack the plateau where they are in multiple little pieces of ice floating on which it is very delicate to keep his balance. So it is a half a dozen of Tarantulas that the two Lyoko Warriors send in underwater!
In episode 31 "Mister Pück", four Bloks hide under the ice to make a noteworthy output.
Returning to the decor elements uncommon of the frozen stretches.
First of all, the caves. They often create many worries at the heroes. Not because it reigns a polar temperature but because the towers are very well hidden modelled on episode 9 "Satellite" and 41 "Ultimatum". When the entrance is behind a waterfall guarded by Tarantulas, the task is even more complicated.
Making a stop on the word "waterfall" which itself is interesting. In the Ice Sector, water plays a key role ! Indeed, it is present in the form of small lakes and waterfalls. Yet in the virtual world, impossible to drown for a Lyoko-Warrior knowing swim. This is why, Odd, in episode 44 "Vertigo", makes a small dive in order to avoid two Frôlions which guard the entrance of a cave and saves Aelita who was in the Scyphozoa's tentacles!
Water is rather beneficial at the Lyoko-Warriors because the monsters cannot swim. If they fall in water as we see in "XANA Awakens" they sink and are prisoners of the marine depth...
It does not confuse the vast lakes which we find in the Ice with the Digital Sea. For differentiate them, a manner is simple. The Digital Sea gravitates much more low than the plateaus of the Ice. The water of the lakes is measure up to the paths. In Ice Replika, this time, a big lake also has its water level at the same height as the plateaus and when Jeremy starts up the multi-agent program, freezing the Digital Sea to trap the Kolossus in the lake, the ice unites just for a moment, all platforms (Episode 92 “Cold Sweat”).
The next episode (93 "Down to Earth"), we see well that the sea level is lower when the carcass of the Skid falls of the platform.
Finally, come the funniest elements of Ice Sector: Its tunnels! Often used to link a platform to another, these are long paths crossing the icebergs which would be perfect for a descent by sled!
We find it everywhere across the Ice Sector and they always give rise to picturesque pursuits (Aelita pursued by a Hornets itself pursued by Yumi and Ulrich in episode 26 "False Start")! Only Kankrelats and Hornets can creep into these passages too narrow for other monsters. The Virtual cockroaches are besides hard put to keep their trajectory. The heroes often cross them by vehicle because this is the more practical. From then on they are private it, they remain them that only two choices: Slide as ice skaters or go down on the buttocks!
It is necessary also to note that the exit of tunnels often leads to a cliff and so, one needs to expect a good fall, sufficient to destroy a Kankrelat!
This is also one of the reasons for which these tunnels make us good laugh.
The Replika informs no other difference with its model of Lyoko. It is similar.
Monsters and the Ice Sector
Spoiler
A monster who is happy in the Ice Sector is the Hornet. Indeed, in Season 1, every time the heroes go in the Ice Sector, they nearly always meet squadrons of these monsters which make to rain a torrent of laser on the iced stretch of the Sector. Consequently, Mantas feel also comfortable in this Sector. This is there that we saw them most often, apart from Sector 5. They wander the sky very quickly, spreading bursts, explosive landmines and hopelessness on the mortals…
Conversely, Megatanks appear here hardly ever, the soil must be too slippery to allow them to roll at high speed prudently.
To foil this frightfully unstable soil, XANA also willingly sends monsters of which their legs are grasping that is to say Krabs and Bloks! Small Kankrelats, them, go "live" permanently on the soil frozen as if nothing had happened!
Tarantulas are present just as in the other Sectors but something which allow them to grip on the soil default them and heroes take advantage in episode 38 "Temptation" when Odd and Ulrich do slide in turns the Tarantulas in water cracking the icecap in multiple islets of ice floating and unstable!
Just like Mountain, the huge plateaus seems rather in favor of William who launches hard frontal offensive, traps the heroes against an iceberg (Episode 84 "Guided Missile"), uses profusely his Supersmoke (Episode 84 and 93 "Down to Earth").
The Ice and its Replikas are the only places where we are present at the fight against the Kolossus. The monster can move without difficulty on the plateaus of ice. The heroes cannot barricade themselves in the caves because the Kolossus' powerful arm is fully enough to break an iceberg, striking several times at a stretch (Episode 94 "Fight to the Finish").
